What, exactly happens on the ride "Space Mountain" at Disney World?

I know that Space Mountain is a roller coaster in the dark with a screen with stars and such. I would like to know if it turns you upside down, or has really sharp turns and such as that. I've heard that it only goes 28 miles per hour at its fastest but I bet it seems like it's going much faster. I don't want to ride it but my kids are insisting, and as much as it will scare me, it would scare me more to stand there and wait at the end of it for them to get off amoung a huge crowd of people. I think it would help if I knew exactly what was going to happen in the ride. If you have ridden it, I would appreciate as many details as you can remember. Thanks.

I understand your concern. Space Mountain was the very first roller coaster I ever went on (and I was 18 when I did!), and I was very nervous before I did ride it. However, I found that I LOVED it! It really is not that fast. I've ridden it both with the lights on and the lights off, and it does seem faster in the dark, but really it does not go that quickly. There are no flips, no corkscrews, you are never going to go upside-down, so do not worry about that.

There are a few sharp dips that may take you by surprise because you are going to be in the dark, and cannot really see what is coming up. I would suggest maybe asking the cast member who loads people into the ride to seat you in the very front of one of the trams. That way you can see a bit more of what is coming so it will not surprise you as much.

I hope you decide to take a chance on Space Mountain. It really is meant to be a fun family ride, and it is not scary and it is not too fast. Good luck, and I hope you have a lovely vacation!

You do not go upside down, you seem to go SLOWER then 28 mph. Believe me, it's not scray at all, and I'm the biggest baby when it comes to roller coasters!!
(Gemma Tyrell is incorrect, she must be thinking of a different ride!)

I didn't ride Space Mountain after the 8th time I've been to Disneyworld because I was so scared at first. However, after I went on, it was the BEST RIDE IN THE WORLD (for me). It starts off where you're sitting with one person in a seat, and 3 seats in a "car," and you go through some blue lights that blink. You go to the hill part, where you go up a hill, and then you go down and enter the star place (the main part of the ride) and you do some turns (they're not that sharp, but they might twist you around a little) and it's impossible not to scream! You go down a couple of times, and somewhere kind of near the end, you go through another enclosed tube, this time with blinking red lights. You do some more twists and falls, and then you exit the ride. There are no STEEP falls or VERY SHARP turns, and it never goes upside down. Also, there are two tracks to choose from when you enter. You can go on the right or left. One of them is more exciting than the other, I think, so if you don't like one of them, you can try the other. I hope this helps!

Oh it's really worth it. It doesn't go upside-down, though, but it seems to have sharp turns. You can't really tell where you're going in the dark, so every twist, turn, and drop comes as a surprise. They might not actually turn that sharp, but it surprises you. Also, if you get a fastpass, you won't have to wait as long. Oh and btw - it seats three people to a car thingy. Try it and have fun!!

im not one for rollercoasters either, and space mountain is nothing. like the people said, it doesnt go too fast. it doesnt spin you upside down or anything like that. and it does go up and down and side to side, but nothing you cant handle. there is one bump that is a little steeper than others, but the ride is really nothing youll lose your lunch over. youll be able to handle it.

hope i helped!

Hi, I took my 8 yr old son on it with my mother awsell, and believe me never again!. We found it very jerky and with the speed you come out with a bad neck!

First of all you go through a really long que line and then get onto the ride itself. You start out going thorough a tunnel and then you are in space. You continue through space and soon it is all over. The ride does have really sharp turns but you don't go upside down. It is not really all that bad. You will probally even like it. Just sharp turns in the dark. It has a few smaller drops too, but not too many. A couple tunnels, a few drops, and some sharp turns, that's it.

That second answerer must be thinking of another ride, because Space Mountain doesn't go upside down at all. It feels like your going slower than 28 mph and isn't scary at all! I think you'd like it. But be warned, it's older so it's bumpier, so if you don't have a strong stomach, that may upset it. Have fun at DW!

Space Mountain is my absolute favorite ride in ALL of Disney World. The ride is so much fun. You do shoot off in dark and then as you go up the first hill there is someone counting down (with cool lights on) then you take off. There is no real major dips in there, there are a few dips but they are not bad at all (nothing like Splash Mountain or Expedition Everest). You just don't know when to expect them because it is dark, but not totally dark. I say it is not totally dark because you have the stars and commets whizzing by plus on each of the ride's cars there is a reflector light on it so you can see each car whiz by too. The whole experience is worth trying out at least once and if you don't like it, you are not forced to go on it ever again. FYI--depending on the time of year you are going to Disney, you may want to get Fastpass because the line for this ride tends to get VERY long.

O man, i loved that ride. I went to it a few years ago when i was lik 9, and it seems like your going so fast and yourin space. theres no loops upside down but there are sharp turns. Its really fun and its not bad in terms of sickness feeling. splash mountain is anoher story.....

I just rode it with a 5 & 6 year old...they had a blast. It is 3 to a ride vehicle sitting one behind another.

It does not go upside down and if you have good night vision you really can see the track.

I ride it but it does make me sick cause it has like two 3 level corkscrews where you are going in a circle and that makes me get sooo dizzy. It does have some jerky turns...but nothing crazy.

If you don't want to ride accompany them in the line then have a cast member direct you to where to pick them up at the end of the ride...so they can ride it alone but don't have to be in line alone.

I have hated rides all my life Took the grandsons to Disney and of course Space Mountain was a must. I did ride it more than once. Just kept my eyes closed. Not bad at all.
