I'm going to Detroit today and I think that everyone is slightly stereotypical about it; it can be a bad place but it is not as bad as a lot of people think. It has a lot of nice parts and is fun to hang out in. |

Cess Pool... at least that is the general concensus. I actually like Detroit (in the daytime), but I am definetely in the minority. |

well, I live really close to detroit so I have a different opinion... I see it as a suffering city with lots of negativity because there is NO opportunity there. It's got an awesome art and music community still and downtown would be awesome if they'd actually invest and put some money into revamping some of those old beautiful buildings... it could be ok. I often go the Heidelberg Project which draws hundreds of thousands of folks a year and go to Harpos which is about the coolest venue for seeing rock shows and of course the Detroit Institute of the Arts for classic beautiful pieces of art. I would have liked to see what it was back in the MoTown days. |

It's a blue-collar area with a ton of car factories. It also has insanely high crime. But it does have decent sports with the Tigers and Pistons. |

"it is known as the world's traditional automotive center and an important source of popular music—legacies celebrated by the city's two familiar nicknames, Motor City and Motown. The city ultimately gets its name from the Detroit River, which in turn derives from the French, "Rivière du Détroit", literally, the "River of the Strait". " |

Detroit isn't all that bad. All the field trips I went on there were actually pretty nice. We would go to the fox theater, umm thats all I remember lol thats the only nice thing I guess. I wouldnt want to live there, but My cousins live there and they havent had ne trouble at all. On the other hand, my great aunt lives there and shes robbed all the time. Not much to it and high crime rate is my personal opinion and experience. |

A city that is struggling to survive as a city due to job losses in the auto industry. |

I love Detroit, I think that mostly you wouldnt want to live there unless you had lots of $$ to live in the nice places. It is very nice to visit and I love the restaurants and memories I have of Detroit. I will never move from this area, and will always say, when ppl ask me where I am from, "DETROIT" even though I live in suburbs.

I grew up there and I wouldn't live there again. It's not as bad as everyone says it is, but it's run down and poor. You can find some really good music though. It's a sad little city. Don't stop at red lights at night time if you can help it and keep your doors locked. If you're in Southwest, don't tell ANYONE you're not from there. On a brighter note, go to Greektown. It's great! |
