What interesting places can I visit in San Diego other than Sea World, SD Zoo & Animal Park?

Additional Details
I have already done most of the "touristy" stuff like La Jolla, Balboa Park, Cabrillo Lighthouse, PB, etc. I'm looking for things that only the locals know about. I'd like to see some smaller museums or tour interesting places. I'm looking for specifics not generalizations about an area. If there is anything you have tried let me know about it.

Some good options listed above but I didn't see one of the big ones, especially if you enjoy places like Sea World. The Scripps/Birch Aquarium near Oceanside about 20-minutes North of downtown. Torrey Pines State Reserve is beautiful and has some great hiking. Lots of good places to visit in Belmont Park, including the Science Center and History Museum. If you have young children, Legoland is a great choice otherwise not. Mission Beach has an amusement park on the water but not sure when it is open. If you are into this type of thing, I've heard good things about Quail Botantical Gardens in Encinitas as well.

My favorites:

Cabrillo National Park
Children's Beach and La Jolla Cove
Walk around Ocean Beach and/or Pacific Beach
Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp District
See a game at Petco Park
If you're here by July 4, the County Fair

Bellatres
If you have kids - Legoland, Beach, La Jolla Cove All San Diego Museum's by SD Zoo

if not shopping in La Jolla, Beach, Down Town, Old Town, Catalina Island and Seaport Village

I live here in SD so I also suggest going to San Diego website and do some research. LUV IT!

There are lots of interesting things to do in Balboa Park. Check out http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/balboa-park.html.

If you are interesting in activities, there are a great number of choices. One of my favorite is having a bonfire on the beach and roasting marshmallows.

Not every realizes that there are around 15 wineries in San Diego County. About half of them are around Escondido and the rest around Julian. If you'd like to go wine tasting, check out the winery info at http://www.cheers2wine.com/San-Diego.html

The main question is what are your interests? If you like the water I would HIGHLY recommend renting a kayak at La Jolla Shores and checking out the sea caves.

Enjoy our wonderful city.
