Nothing in 8 Mile is too interesting for sure. It's like any street or route that you would drive down, but it is the unofficial border between Detroit and the suburbs. What you will see is a lot of gas stations, bars, and smaller restaurants. It's actaully not that dangerous during the day, and you won't see many people and it would be rare if you do. It is very rundown and not one of the nicest places you've ever been but it isn't crazy bad during the day. 8 mile and 9th mile are some of the crazy rundown parts of Detroit, but checking it out isn't too bad, it's just like another street that you have to drive down like I said before.

Overall, 8 Mile isn't that great of a place to visit, it's one of the unofficial border lines of Detroit and you'll see a lot of gas station, bars, and restaurants.

Have a good time at Comerica Park!

Good Luck!

Eight Mile is a long stretch of highway, eight miles from the downtown city center. It travels east and west and will cross many of the connecting suburbs. It moves fast, is about 4 lanes in each direction.

Eight Mile road, the boundary between Wayne County and Macomb and Oakland counties, is most notorious for its collection of bars and strip clubs, especially east of Woodward Avenue. Make of that what you will.

There is really nothing of interest on 8 Mile...lots of gas stations, bars, strip malls, etc. It is a highly congested route that basically is the unofficial border separating the city of Detroit and the suburbs. In many areas, quite frankly, it is quite rundown and dangerous. From Comerica Park, you are about a 10 or 15 minute drive north on 1-75 from 8 Mile Road, but the area of 8 Mile around 1-75 is pretty depressed.

its like any other street you would drive past

Detroit side: strip clubs, liquor stores, hopelessness, and residential areas

Suburban side: residential area and better quality of life.

Assuming you've never been to Detroit and you've seen the movie "8 Mile" a few to many times, 8 Mile Road has nothing to see or offer that any other street doesn't have. 8 Mile is just a rundown, sometimes dangerous stretch of road that separates Detroit city limits from the suburbs to the north. Unless your into strip centers and gas stations, there isn't anything to see.

If you consider getting mugged, car jacked, beat, shot, robbed,or raped an attraction, they are all there

Rim shops, check cashing, pager stores, strip clubs, maybe a crappy market with bars on the windows, liquor stores, gas stations, homeless people and lots of abandoned and burned out properties.

It's really just like the rest of Detroit.

DetroiterGuy
8 Mile (or Baseline Rd in some parts) is another street on Detroit's mile system, appx. 8 Miles from the city's center. It is a divided highway (M-102), in the middle there is something called a "Michigan Left" median in and that's how you turn left, go up 1/4 of a mile and turn around, one cannot just turn left onto 8 Mile (and Woodward n. of 6 Mile). One side of 8 Mile, the north side, is Oakland County where most of the suburbs and south of 8 Mile, but east of Telegraph Rd. is Detroit. There isn't much to see but gas stations, strip malls, and strip clubs. 8 mile is fine and only famous because of the movie 8 MILE. It's fine during the day and during the night, it's too busy for any "crime" to happen on it, like Woodward Ave, our main street in Metro Detroit.

Most of what Bleacherbrat said above it wrong. Only Gratiot, Michigan, Woodward, and Grand River sprout from CAMPUS MARTIUS, another must-see in the city downtown. What Bricky said was also ingorant, nothing like that happens...again it's well policed with both suburban and Detroit police officers.

bleacherbrat34
honestly DO NOT STOP ANY WHERE ON 8 MILE RD KEEP GOING !!!!!
Cars are broken into during broad daylight.
Do NOT GO BY YOURSELF!!>>

North side of 8 mile is Macomb and Oakland Countys,, (East Pointe, Warren Livorina)
the South side is Detroit and Wanye County. There is a divison Island located in the middle of the street so you can tell the differnce.

If you must there is a party store on E 8 mile between Goldburn and Waltham called Vince's Party Store they have great pizza.
but make sure you leave somebody with the car.
and Please be careful, the police will not answer your calls,, it takes up to 4 to 8 hrs to get a Response if they come at all.

Check out the web site and store some of the police contact numbers in your cell phone. They also have maps of the locations of where the police stations are located.

Also most of the roads are in really bad shape make sure you have spare tire and jack in the car (even if it is rental).
Most Of the Streets do not have working street lights,, stay on the main roads.
Most of the roads are mark by mile like 8 miles they go west to east.
then the he main roads Jefferson, Gratoit, Van Dkye, Michigan ave all fork out form HArt Plaza downtown Detroit.
