What is a better place to take a girlfriend, Disneyworld or Vegas???

She's not into gambling but I heard Vegas is cool anyway, and I heard Disney is cool but it's for kids mainly, so what's better for a non-gambling couple in their 30's???

Disney world isn't mainly for kids. I'm 30 years old and will go to Disney world and have more fun than kids do. I think they both can be romantic, they're both fun and you can have a lot of things to do and see at both. I guess if she loves to run and get on rides and if she loves the outdoors take her to Disney world. If she loves fancy restaurants, see sites and be indoors take her to las veges, but you can't go wrong at either place.

Weel, it sounds like she may not be into either of those places, so maybe you need to look for something different. How about something like Key West? It is a neat place to visit, lots of interesting characters, you could do evening dinner tours on a boat and other types of boat tours. My husband and I spent two months in Key West on our sailboat, and we were never bored.

DISNEY DEFINATELY, ITS CUTER AND MORE ROMANTIC AND IF SHE IS ANYTHING LIKE ME VEGAS IS WAY TOO DANGEROUS WITH THE CORRECT ABOUT OF ALCOHOL AND ENOUGH LITTLE CHAPELS SHE COULD GO THERE YOUR GIRLFRIEND AND COME HOME YOUR WIFE

Elissa
Definitely Disney.

Think about it: on a roller coaster or another ride, whose arm is she going to grab?
In Vegas, the most grabbed arm will be on the slot machines (even if you don't gamble, those machines are everywhere and they do their best to make it impossible to resist).

Disney is lots better for walking hand-in-hand, sharing milkshakes (yes, even people in their 30s can share a milk shake; my hubby and I do, and we've been married for 12 years), etc. Plus, there are other, less-kid oriented theme parks all over Orlando. Epcot, Universal, etc. There's a place where you can swim with dolphins, even.

Of course, Disney might make her start thinking about how nice it would be to have a family.... Don't know if you want this or not, but if you're taking a vacation together, you're probably pretty serious anyway.

Wherever you go, have fun!

Katie W
There's some neat stuff in Vegas (Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil and other shows), and it's gotten somewhat more cleaned up and family-friendly, but there's still a lot aimed at titillating men there (the classic showgirl wearing very little is everywhere, for example). If she is insecure, it might make her uncomfortable. It's also focused on getting you to gamble, of course; expect to have to walk through many casinos to get anywhere (they want to force you to look at all your gambling options, so there's no easy exits).

Disney is cool too, especially if you're a kid at heart; but if kids bug you though you will definitely see (and hear) a lot of 'em, and you do get lines for rides, too. Disney knows customer service though -- while things are generally overpriced, food and service are very good quality, and there's a lot that appeals to adults too.

godrugal2002
Vegas is definitely a cool place to go to

sue_1226
vegas baby!

Lorenzo Steed
There are other things to do in and around Vegas besides gambling - they have good shows, interesting tours, the grand canyon, etc. And many of the casinos are tour worthy by themselves. But for non-gamblers, there are better things in Disney. You say Disneyworld, not Disneyland which is good. Don't ever bother going to Disneyland, unless you live in SoCal.
But one trip to Vegas for you would probably be your last.
But it is literally impossible to see everything in and around Disneyworld in one visit, even if you were there for 2 weeks.
Just Epcot alone can take days.
Plus there are so many things outside of Disneyland, like SeaWorld, Church Street Station, WaterWorld, Universal Studios.
You have much more variety in Fla, but you will definitely need a car, and probably spend more money than in Vegas.
Use their time planner. It is helpful.
Have a good time !

Sir Poops alot
Women love Disney, it doesn't matter how old they get.

My husband has just returned from Lido beach in Sarasota FL. It was so wonderful, The beaches are so nice and you are right by St Armin's Circle a beautiful shopping and eating outdoors plaza. Your on an Island so you don't have to deal with alot of traffic but it is so easy to get to the interstate if you wanted to travel somewhere else. We took a boat tour to see and pet dolphins and other ocean sea animals. I hope this is helpfull. Have fun on where ever you decide to go

Take her to Disneyworld. There's lots of other things to do in the area besides Mickey.
Taking a girl to Las Vegas is like taking sand to the beach anyway.

Ashley
I say Disney, its not mainly for kids at all. Yes there are kids parts but there is a lot for adults to do as well. If shes not into gambling Id say Disney it is.

This is a close call. I will go with Vegas. You could spend days walking down the Vegas strip at night and taking in all of the lights and wonders of architecture. You can catch many free shows provided by the casinos and even get on rides at some of the casinos. It is almost like Disneyworld for adults.

Consider visiting New Orleans instead.

NOLA is one of the world's special places with an ambience unique in North America, and remains so even after Katrina devastated it in 2005.

Katrina flooded about 80% of New Orleans with salt water, and the water stayed for almost a month. Much of the city is still struggling to recover and all you have to do to see devastation is drive around. It will take years for NOLA to fully recover from Katrina.

However, the parts of the city that tourists usually visit were not flooded. It's not a coincidence - the French Quarter and other old parts of the city were built on relatively high ground and only suffered wind damage from Katrina. Almost all of the damage has been repaired and you have to look closely in the FQ and city center to see that Katrina happened at all. You should visit and see for yourself.

Note that the City of New Orleans is only part of the greater New Orleans area. The GNO area had a population of about 1,400,000 before Katrina and is estimated at about 1,200,000 now (July, 2007). The absent 200,000 are mostly from the City of New Orleans and the parishes of Plaquemines and Saint Bernard, which were the worst-flooded parts of the metro area. Jefferson Parish - just to the west of the City - suffered only minor flooding and has fully recovered.

You can drink the water, the electricity & phones work, and services like the post office, hospitals, schools, and police/fire/EMS are operating. Restaurants, stores and shopping centers are open.

Municipal services like street cleaning & trash collection collapsed after Katrina. Those services were fully restored in late 2006 and it is no longer an issue.

I recommend staying in the French Quarter (Vieux Carre") if you can. There is a very wide range of selections available, from moderate guest houses to very exclusive "boutique" hotels. Search Yahoo Travel and Travelocity for ideas and also check the hotel websites.

You don't need a car to get around in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or Warehouse District. Also, the parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. If you drive or rent a car, leave it in a lot or garage unless you are traveling away from downtown.

The regional transit authority (www.norta.com) sells 1 and 3 day passes that offer unlimited use of buses and streetcars for the day(s) you select. There are also lots of taxicabs.

Regarding crime, questions like yours tend to attract highly negative "answers" from people who do not live here and who have little or no idea what they are talking about. Use the same common sense necessary in every major city in the world and there is little chance you will be a victim of anything except a need to visit the gym: Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't leave something like a camera-bag, purse, or backpack unattended on a park bench while you wander off to take photos. Etc.

New Orleans has mild weather from late October to early May and the city stays green all year most years (rarely freezes and almost never snows). We pay for the mild winters with hot, humid summers – particularly in July & August. The good news for summertime visitors is that hotel rates are lower.

Things to do:

There are many sightseeing opportunities in the greater New Orleans area, including carriage rides/tours, plantation tours, swamp tours, ghost tours, and even Katrina disaster tours. The steamboat Natchez also does a harbor tour. There are numerous tour companies and your hotel can help with the arrangements. Try to avoid scheduling an outdoor tour until you know the weather forecast for the day in question.

There is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music. Note that music clubs often advertise "No Cover", meaning there is no charge for entering. However, clubs with "No Cover" often require that customers buy a beverage each for every "set " of music (which can be every 20 minutes) so know the price before you sit down. The clubs do that because some people will sit in the club all evening drinking water or nothing. It is also a good idea to pay for each round of drinks (in clubs on Bourbon Street) as it s delivered so there can't be any confusion at the end of the evening.

Wander around the French Quarter, enjoy the architecture, watch the street entertainers (do tip), and visit some of the historic buildings that have been turned into museums (go to www.frenchquarter.com and click on Historic Attractions).

Assuming the weather is good, you can collect a sandwich lunch and eat in the riverfront park (watch the shipping) or in Jackson Square (a very nice park).

The Riverwalk shopping center has an air-conditioned food court with dining overlooking the river (www.riverwalkmarketplace.com). The Canal Place shopping center is in the French Quarter and has a cinema and higher-end shopping (Saks 5th Avenue, Brooks Brothers, etc.)

The lobby for the Westin Canal Place Hotel is on the 11th floor and overlooks the French Quarter. It is a great place for an afternoon drink/snack:(www.wyndham.com).

Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn't miss having cafe au lait & beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 615 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm and has food in addition to pastry.

The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day). The Palm Court is closed from about July 25th to about September 25th each year.

All of the famous restaurants (Antoine's, Arnaud's, Brennan's, Commander's Palace, etc.) have reopened. The Pelican Club (on Exchange Alley in the FQ) is not as well known but is the same type experience. Reservations are a good idea, and probably essential on weekends.

Cafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays (504-945-5635).

There is a free ferry across the Mississippi at the "foot" of Canal Street. It is a short trip but like a harbor cruise w/o a guide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/canal_street_ferry

The Aquarium and Audubon Zoo are world-class attractions (www.auduboninstitute.org) and you should see them if you can. There is a shuttle boat (not free) between the Aquarium (which is next to the French Quarter) and the Zoo (which is several miles away). You can also drive to the Zoo (which has free parking) or take public transit from the French Quarter.

The Louisiana State Museum is in the French Quarter: http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/ New Orleans is also home to a number of other museums, such as the National World War II Museum (www.ddaymuseum.org) and the New Orleans Museum of Art (www.noma.org). Both can be reached by public transit: The WWII museum is in the central business district but a long walk from the French Quarter. NOMA is not within walking distance of downtown but has free parking.

Check www.frenchquarter.com for ideas on other things to do.

Hope you have a good visit, wherever you go!

Depends what type she is, personally if shes not into gambling probably Disney-- Who cares if its for kids.. Its fun!!

Vegas is indeed cool even if you don't gamble. There are plenty of things to do such as walk the strip, see shows, eat, etc. I would however prefer Disneyworld- WAY MORE FUN. But I would also think it would be more expensive.

otisisstumpy
I think she would really like Vegas anyway, even if she isn't into gambling that much. The shopping, the people watching and the great dining make it all worth it. I am not much of a gambler yet I love going to Vegas!

emland
I've been to both and enjoyed them both. If it were just adults, I would say Vegas. (I'm 40, btw) Neither of us are gamblers, but we had a great time going to the shows and visiting the hotels and watching the world go by. We dropped maybe $50 into the slots the whole time we were there (3 days) We visited Vegas in February and there were no crowds and it wasn't hot - it actually rained one day. There is a new fashion mall near the strip and the Grand Canyon isn't that far away and we visited that too - it was wonderful because it snowed.

I loved Disney because I enjoyed watching my 6 year old who is Princess crazy have a fantastic time. The only thing I really enjoyed was the evening parade. My husband didn't enjoy Disney at all.

It really depends on the personality of you and your GF. Have fun!

Disneyworld in Florida is made up of several theme parks - some more adult oriented than others. For instance, Disney MGM has move-themed rides and events. Epcot, while not as exciting as other theme parks, has a "World's Fair" feel to it, along with some fun theme rides. But, in my opinion, the best option is to skip Disney parks altogether and hit Universal. I would avoid Magic Kingdom. Does she like roller coasters?

Vegas is about gambling, shopping and shows.

Disney is lame, and if you're not into gambling then Vegas will be boring after about 4 hours. Why not take her to a national park?

I personally would choose neither. Too commercial. Of course it is Winter, but if you are going to pay the money for a Vegas or Disneyworld trip, couldn't you afford someplace that still has nice weather this time of year. I'm not sure where? Hawaii maybe??
