What is a good romantic place to propose in San Francisco?

I was thinking Twin Peaks or near Ocean Beach...

There is a lookout on the south side of the bridge - it's gorgeous. It looks out over the bay, city and the bridge. I would have loved my husband to propose to me there. If you do it there, you can ask someone to take your picture and when you hand them the camera, tell them you are going to pop the question that way they are ready and can get the reaction and everything on film!

twin peaks is a great choice or you'd have to find it first but there is an awesome trail that starts at the parking lot for the old bath house and comes and on the trail there are several over looks where you can see the golden gate and the ocean and hear the waves crashing. Or on a clear night the park on the other side of the golden gate looking back at the city could be cool.

On a Friday evening after dark at the look -out at COIT Tower. The view off to the Golden Gate and the wharf and all the lights are very romantic.

Kate6239's uncle probably proposed on Twin Peaks. Great views across the whole city and west toward the ocean - if it isn't foggy!

Ocean beach near Land's End, past the Cliff House is nice - but can be windy and chilly - or foggy!

Golden Gate Park has lots of pretty places. Stow Lake, Conservatory of Flowers, the windmill.

The Presidio, now a national park, with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Alcatraz! You can figure out the symbolism for this one!

Twin Peaks and Coit Tower are both good locations. You might want to avoid a rowdy Friday or Saturday (late night) at either location. Ocean Beach is also great, as long as the night is clear. When it's too foggy and windy you lose the effect of the moonlight shining off the water.

My favorite view of the city at night is from the top of Mt. Davidson. The downside (if you're being romantic) is that it's about a ten minute walk up the mountain in the dark; and the park is technically closed after hours.

my uncle did that on the top of some mountain...she said yes...soo yea.

On the golden gate bridge would be so romantic or maybe a picnic in the park. If your proposing to somewhere where ever you do it i'm sure its the proposal not the location that will be important. Good luck with that

Both of your suggestions would be lovely--if it isn't foggy and cold, which is probable between June and September.

The Conservatory of Flowers, Shakespeare Garden, Stowe Lake, Japanese Tea Garden, all in Golden Gate Park.

Top of the Mark Hopkins Hotel.

Take a nice stroll out to the end of the pier on the Embarcadero near the Bay Bridge--it's like you're out on the Bay, and if it's evening the bridge will be lit up. It'll look something like this: http://www.weatherpaparazzi.com/blog/0806/DSC_3245_SFO_Bay_Bridge.jpg

Some other romantic locations:

Alamo Square: "Post Card Row" - a very pleasant park with the famous rows of Victorian houses against the modern San Francisco skyline.

Buena Vista Park. It is a woodsy hill in the middle of the city that turists often miss. If you hike to the top of the hill you can peek at the city below between the tall trees - and even when its foggy, the city below looks like something out of a dream. I think it is perfect for a private proposal, the place is practically deserted during the week.

The Legion of Honor. Ok, why would you want to propose at a museum? Because it is one of the most beautiful and most romantic museums in San Francisco! It is located on top of a headland, and the views of the Golden Gate Bridge are breathtaking.

The Palace of the Fine Arts. Just take a walk on the colonnade of the ruin-like palace, and propose under the dome. You can even do this at night, the palace is beautifully lit.

Sutro Heights. I don't know, I just find ruins incredibly romantic. This was the location of former Mayor Sutro's mansion, now a public park. You can still see remains of the statues that used to adorn the mayor's garden. The ruins of the victorian baths that the mayor had built are across the street, below the turisty Cliff House. The park is very quiet on weekdays, again, if you want to propose in private. The top of the castle-like Tourret has a beautiful view of Ocean Beach.
