What?
Going from Fl to Michigan, I wanted to shoot myself. Try Amtrak instead, at least on a train you can get up and move around a little bit, or go online to Orbitz and get the cheapest plane ticket you can find. I know it sounds nice, see the country, meet new people. Neither one really happens. You just sit there day after day waiting for someone to postal and since you get so sick of seeing the same damn thing all the time, you go nuts. Don't do it bro, cross state, ok, that far, forget it.

that was hardly recently, it was an isolated incident, not worth mentioning. that said, it would suck real bad, so many layovers.

It's long and boring. If you can sleep for a lot of it, it's not too bad. It gets uncomfortable and you get bus bum (where your bum goes to sleep but you can't). It'll probably start to smell a bit (if it didn't when you first get on!) but you kinda forget about it after a while. If you're lucky you'll get 2 seats to yourself and can stretch out a bit.

Really, it's not too bad - not the most fun you'll ever have but if you look at it as a chance to relax you can not hate it. Take your ipod, take a book, make conversation with others on the bus and sleep if you can.

I travelled through 20 European countries on a coach - best thing I ever did. Sure, the days on the bus could be long and boring but if you make your own fun it's bearable. I would use long bus days as a chance to catch up on my sleep.

I did Minneapolis to Indianapolis on Greyhound. Can't honestly remember the miles, but it was a day. I think 14 hours? Very boring. I brought lots of different things to do. I had a crafty project, a few books, Ipod, snacks, magazines, an electronic sudoku thing. That way if you get bored of one thing, you can try something else. Don't bank on socializing... there are some weirdos on there for sure. Though you might get a neighbor who is good for an hour or so of conversation.

Good luck. I think its worth it if you need to get some where on the cheap and don't care so much about time. I mean, you'll get over the boredom.

While it is economical, it is slow. There are stops and probably will be layovers. Bring you mp3 player if you have one. It's a good time to catch up on a lot of reading if you don't get motion sickness from not looking out the window.

I took a bus trip from Ohio to Michigan that took nineteen hours. It's nice to have someone else do the driving, but I have driven to Florida in less time (exceeding the speed limit, but still). The seat was comfortable, but any seat gets uncomfortable after so many hours. I didn't use the bathroom; I used the stops for that.

Well, My cousins took a 3 day busride, their description- PAINFULLY BORING

boring and smells bad

Take a train if you don't like flying. There is so much more room on a train than on a plane and definitely more than a bus. I have been on 2 bus trips- not nearly as long as that and I hated it each time. Seats are uncomfortable and not enough leg room. If the person behind you complains, you can't even recline your seat! That happened to me the last time. I took a train from North Dakota to Ohio a couple years ago and loved it!

A Father's Love
It would be good to prepare for this trip, I went from St louis to Texas on the greyhound, and even from St louis to California. I do not suggest sleeping pills or drinking, but it was something I did when I was young and I slept the whole way there. I would not suggest this at all.

It was a long trip but if you get some headphones, have conversations with the person you sit with, and enjoy the scenery the time will go by fast. It can be a little cramped feeling but you will get used to it. There are alot of stops so the trip isn't just a long dull trip. I love riding greyhound because of all the people I see. I love people.

You will not regret it, if you keep an open mind and prepare well for the trip. Going to Cali was a horrible trip because I was young and I drank heavily before getting on the bus. I slept the whole time because of the liquor.

Talk to people, give fruit to the kids and read something good, take your Miniature dvd player and some headphones to keep from disturbing your neighbor and meditate on the good things in life! Enjoy!

i took greyhound from nyc to miami, it took about a day. they stopped about every hour in every state. it wasn't that bad, the seats could be a little more comfortable, but it was a fun road trip with my friends.

Well I've never been on a Greyhound, but I travel a lot on chartered buses for my job. 1300 miles is long...according to MapQuest it's 20 and 1/2 hours by car. I would add at least 5 hours to that by bus, and factor in rest stops and such. So you're looking at a very long time on a bus. Depending on how full that particular route is, you may get 2 seats to yourself which makes it much better b/c you can lay down (somewhat) to sleep. Our chartered buses have tv screens so you can watch movies...not sure if Greyhound has that though. Large buses definately aren't the smoothest ride....kind of bumpy and creaky, but bearable. I would stock up on all the recent magazines that look interesting, a few good books, a great pillow and blanket, and stock your i-pod (or other MP3 player) with lots of good tunes. Oh...and hope there isn't a crying baby the whole way :0)

A long time ago i went from Pennsylvania to Minnesota...at first it was neat...then as we kept on going down the road..it got worse cause of the new passengers that got on...at that time i had my 3 yr old daughter with me...she had the window seat...at one time while she was asleep i turned on the little light above me to read (same kind u would find in a plane) the asssss wipe behind me wanted the light off so he could sleep...but he was talking a mile a minute to the girl that was with him...and of course he kept on pushing my seat with his feet....then a drunk came on board...he didn't see my daughter sitting next to me and he wanted that seat..i told him no...then he got lippy with me...so i got up...went to the driver...told her what was going on..she yelled at him to take another seat...he wouldn't...so she pulled the bus over got up and got in his face...he did pipe down a little...but he kept on saying i will sit where i damm well please...what was he going to do...sit on my kid?...or throw her out of her seat?..when we got to the next stop...all the assss wipes got off the bus...and all these young skate board kids got on...for the next 4 hours i had a great time with these kids...they even showed pictures to my daughter of there skate boarding that they do around the united states...we stopped for dinner...and we all sat together and had fun...when they got off they all hugged me one by one....it was cool...but some are assss wipes...it's almost like every state u go through...you got a group of something coming on board
