Cy-fair school districts are very good. From the parent's point of view, they're great for all the eduction reasons. From the student point of you, it can be hell or heaven depending on what crowd you blend with. Judging by the stylish earrings on you avatar, you should be fine, hun. there are alot of "rich kids" in the area. And they make some of the most valuable friends in the long run. they are not a snobbish as some people might think they are. so be easy, relax, and enjoy.

Houston is huge (over 600 square miles... Greater Houston is larger than some states). I moved here in 1977 as a high school junior, and there was a bit of culture shock then. Some things have changed since then.

A lot of life here is like any other city or suburb. About the only difference you'll see is that we don't talk funny here. You see all types of people as Houston has been a city of immigrants. Over a hundred languages are spoken here (English is still the primary language).

Our climate is both good and bad. We have short winters where the temperature may dip below freezing a few times. This is usually mid-December to mid-February. Spring lasts from mid-February until the beginning of May. Beautiful weather, mostly dry and comfortable, but bad if you have plant allergies. Summer runs from the beginning of May until the middle of October. It is hot. It is humid. We occasionally get hurricanes. Autumn starts in the middle of October and runs until mid-December. Leaves start changing color around then and start falling off trees just before Thanksgiving. We get a lot of ran here, typically over 50" per year.

Houston has bad traffic, not quite like Los Angeles or New York, but pretty bad. Everyone drives here (if you have a license).

There is so much to do here that I couldn't even begin to start. That would depend on your interests.

EDIT: Saw that you are moving to Cypress. The area is mostly white, and affluent now. I have friends who went to high school out there 30 years ago, and it was all rednecks. Fifteen years ago there was nothing there but pastureland, but now there are high end subdivisions springing up all over the place. I visited Black Horse Ranch (subdivision) last Sunday, and I was impressed. Pity it is 37 miles from my office. The area is still growing, so you may have to drive a bit to find entertainment.

it's both the city and country. Houston is the country version of New York City. It's the largest city in the south. very diverse with a large black and hispanic population. it has the best of everything- city life and country life. Cypress is a suburb so it will be typical suburb living there.

I lived in Houston 8 years, and I won't be going back. It is a good city. There is plenty of city oriented things to do. It is very cheap to live there and companies pay pretty well, so it makes it pretty easy to make a living.... It's a very easy city to be comfortable in.

Everyone is relatively nice, I went to High School in Dallas so I can't comment on that in houston.

However the things I did not like, and why I wont move back. Humidity is a killer... tropical storms/threat of hurricanes is no fun.. None of my interests are near by (camping/hiking/snow skiing) I want a winter and there really isn't one in Houston.

Houston is Hot...literaly...well i mean after 17 yrs u get used to it..

but its a cool place to live...very diverse...

where ur moving isnt in houston its just north of houston and its not Crypress city...its just Cypress, Tx...its like just outside houston...but ill give it 10 years b4 its right in the middle...Houston is HUGE....

Cypress is a northwest suburb of Houston, although you can't really tell where one begins and the other ends, other than watching for road signs. That area has grown exponentially in the past few years and is still booming--some of the best high schools in the region, lots of stuff to keep you occupied, good weather in the winter (most of the time--it was 72 and sunny this afternoon), inexpensive food/clothing, lots of megamalls nearby (Willowbrook Mall is a short drive from Cypress). It's also an ethnically mixed area--a little bit of everything (amazing how many Thai restaurants we have here), and Cypress runs the gamut from rich to poor in terms of family income (probably more middle class/upper middle class these days, judging from the size of the new homes).

I've lived here since 1983 and have also lived in Chicago, St. Paul, and Baton Rouge, and Houston is my preference. Don't fret about hurricanes--we haven't had one since 1983 (before I got here).

There are only two cities in the U.S. better then Houston, Chicago and New York.

There is everything to do, and I could make recomendations, but I don't know what you like.
They have excellent theatre, very good music, excellent dining, and a vast array of cultures from around the world.

I was born in Houston so it really not bad living in Houston but it's the neighborhood you live in. I live in a pretty decent neighborhood . High school life is pretty decent so far. I see all kinds of people everyday.

a lot of asian people living in Houston!
food there is cheap, cheaper than california!
a lot of good shopping malls & standard school that offer good & higher education!
98% of people there drive there own car & u can see a lot of car dealership all over the town! =D

ive lived here for a few years. and it's preety interesting each time i explore something. i learn some thing about houston almost evrey other day. once you get to know houston, i think youll have a lot of fun. sometimes it gots reallly hot. and some times itll get some what cold. i really like it. its a great place to live. but they also say that houston is the city with the most resteraunts (sp?). that's why most people are big. i dont blame them. i blame the people who make other people fat and big. alot of the people are nice once you get to know them. it's a great place to study unless if you go to HISD. cy fair is one of the best school districs there is. that's what i think of

I live in houston texas.
Its the fourth largest city in the country, it is kinda big. You see all kinds of people depending where you go (some parts of downtown are filled with bums/drug addicts) There are a lot of suburbs around the edge of the city where people live away from the center of the city.
Houston prolly has some tourist site i dunno about but whatever. There are night clubs bars paintball places several malls, parks, stuff like that. After having lived here all my life for seventeen years the thing that i like the least about houston is the roads. Whoever designed the road layout in houston should be put in jail, i swear every single intersetion is unique and unpredictable.
The city is beutiful in some places but most of the time i think its kind of ugly. Houston is a port city so it basically exists for the businesses and trade. Not much in the way of sightseeing but its nice here i guess.
Also i dont know where youre moving from but you'd better get used to the heat and 85 percent humidity. :)

It depends where in houston ur movin at i live in tha north side and its ghetto but someplaces are classy but it is tha number #1 City it might be hot but it is eally close to galveston so u can swim at tha beach and come back so Welcome To H_TOwn and enjoy
