Food for sure...Gumbo, seafood, Po-boys...so many wonderful restaurants and bars. New Orleans with its French Quarter, Uptown & Garden District and all its historic architechure. And wonderful Plantations around the state.
Of course its also known for its festivals, Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, Voodoo Music Fest, Sachmo, Essence, Decadance and more
And that leads into Jazz...need I say more. So many great music venues and musicians.
Beautiful swamp country, aligators, the Mississippi River...
And finally wonderful people! |

We are known for our unique foods like crawfish etouffee, jambalaya, gumbo, and much more. We are also known for our festivals-- most of our festivals are centered around food; our most famous festivals are Mardi Gras and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, followed closely by the French Quarter Festival. South Louisiana is known for Creole and Cajun culture and cuisine; plantations, swamps, a sportsman's paradise. North Louisiana has two of the oldest settlements in the country---the town of Natchitoches in northwestern Louisiana, which is the oldest settlement west of the Mississippi River, and Poverty Point in the northeastern part of the state, which is the site of the oldest Indian settlement in the state and one of the oldest such settlements in the country. We also have a few formal gardens, open for touring, such as Zemurray Gardens near Hammond, La., and Hodges Gardens in the west central part of the state.
Louisiana people are known for hospitality and knowing how to "pass a good time" as we say down here. We love to share our food and culture with people from other places. |
