First of all, I think it is the most beautiful state, nature-wise. I have been all over the country and nothing compares to California. You have the beach, mountains, desert, and forests, all within an hour's drive. There is plenty to do. The people are GOOD-looking. It is the western center of our culture- NYC being the eastern. However the attitude of CA people is laid-back and people are so much nicer than on the east coast. There are virtually no rednecks, and those that are never assimilate so you won't meet them. And the weather is the best, except for maybe Hawaii (never been to Hawaii). The only downside is that paradise doesn't come cheap. It costs the earth to live in CA, so if you don't have a high-paying job, your dollar will go a lot farther in a less-desireable state.

Lived here my whole life, as a former beach volleyball player the beaches are great, I enjoyed being in the entertainment business for a while. Big city partying is fun.... Here are the downsides The traffic is terrible, cost of living is pretty high, I make about 40k per year and feel like a popper, plus sometimes I would enjoy a little more peace and quiet, basically there are pluses and minuses everywhere but its all I know. Everytime I move away I end up coming back.

You can be to the mountains, desert or sea in about an hour.

We have an economy bigger than France.

Yosemite, Death Valley, Salton Sea, Mt. Whitney, Golden Gate Bridge, Wine country, Redwoods

Golf, surf, skiing, basketball, baseball, soccer...year round.

Stanford, UCLA, Cal Tech, Berkeley.

Disneyland, Universal Studios, Wild Animal Park, San Diego Zoo

The best people watching on the planet.

It has all the elements. Drive an hour in any direction and you are in a different environment. Well at least in Northern California its like that, I can't speak for So. Cal. Within two-three hours of driving I could go to a warm beach, a cold shore, snow topped mountains, the SF bay, a rural town,or the hot Sac valley. I was born in California, and I will always love it here.

Reductio ad Absurdum
The weather, the geography, the money, the women, the atmosphere, the culture, etc. Just about everything is great about California.

Well, we have warm weather, but not too warm like Arizona. We also have cool weather, but not as cold as Oregon. There is no humidity, there are big cities and small cities/towns. Even though there is a large population, you can still get away and be in the forest. Another great thing is we don't get tornadoes or anything like that. Overall, California is very mild weather-wise, is well rounded, and doesn't have too many natural disasters (there actually aren't that many earthquakes).

Everything.

Our weather is the best, very low humidity. There are no tornadoes or hurricanes only earthquakes which very rarely hurt or kill anyone. We have everything here the beaches, the mountains. We are close enough to drive to go skiing without having to live in the snow. You can be yourself here because it is a melting pot of different cultures which are well tolerated. We have great schools here and lots of jobs. Besides we have the Terminator for our Governor

I think weather is part of it. I have a friend from Seattle and she said that weather up there is so unpredictable. The morning could be sunny and warm, while the afternoon is cold and rainy.

If you wanted to live anywhere..wouldnt you want it to be near hot guys, movie stars, the BEACH, awesome parties, and amazing restuarants and beautiful landscape?? Idk thats just my opinion!

It has to do with how the name 'California' came about.
Cali = hot in Spanish
fornia = fornication

So, California = the land of hot sex.

Seriously, California is very scenic. So are Oregon and Washington, but that is a wild, rugged, untamed beauty. California is more of a tamed beauty (at least a lot of it).

Warm weather and beaches in my opinion, but in most peoples its cuz there is mostly naked (even some naked) girls that are very easy

culpepp11
The weather and climate. I live two hours from the ocean (beach) and two hours from the mountains (ski slopes). Plenty of places to go no matter what your interest is, California has it.

Well, I've lived in California my whole life, and there are many great things about California. While what everyone is saying about partying, and beaches and all that crap is true, many other things about California are great. The town that I live in, for instance, is a great family town, and its great for raising families. Another good thing about California is that there are many different places to go and see, that can be both educational, and fun, and interesting, although not a lot of the educational part. There are many things to do in towns like San Jose. There's Great America, which is like a very small Disneyland with no hotel. There's the Tech Museum, which is all three of the things I named, educational, fun, and interesting. There is also this arcade type thing called Dave and Busters, and that place is very, very cool. You can visit Sacramento, and look at the state capital. While you're there you can go to Raging Waters. There are many party cities too, don't worry!! You can go to Hollywood, or Beverly Hills, and look for your favorite celebs. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is also very fun. You can also visit places like San Fransisco and Los Angeles.

northern California and southern California are very very different.
people say if you like northern California you will not like southern California and if you like southern California you wont like northern California.
I like southern California because it is warmer and dry
the beaches are much better. so you have the great beaches to the west. to the east are mountains and the desert
In April I can drive one hour and go skiing. ski for a few runs.
then have a quick lunch and drive for an hour and be home , grab my surf board and surf the rest of the afternoon.
now where else in the world can you do that. BAM oh and the girls are the hottest

Whats great about California?!
:-)
Also want to know, never been there..

islanddude132
because a lot of talent search goes on there. lots of white pple, mexicans, and asians live there. because tons of hot women are there. because they don't have any accents over there, and they have more style. lots of celebrities live there since it is hollywood and neighboring vegas over there. there's more surfing, bicycling, and skateboarding that goes on over there.

I'd just like to say that I think it's funny that this question was asked in the San Francisco category (ie: Northern California!!!), yet most everyone responding is talking about Southern California... and unrealistic Southern California stereotypes, at that (ie: it's pretty obvious most people responding have never been there).

Anyway... Southern and Northern California are very opposite in many ways.
