You know, these people are saying its the fattest state and that's because the entire USA is FAT! It's the biggest state in the continuous states and it's in the South, that's why people are fat there (most of them anyway) The reason for Texas pride is that many a great battle was fought there to gain freedom from Mexico. (Remember the Alamo?) And, it's one of the states where you don't mess with people there. Their death row sentences are among the fastest in the country and, as my grandfather is a Texan (he's not fat), he's an authentic cowboy and I'm glad to be the barrel racing girl I am and have a farm full of Quarter Horses.

honestly, the pride comes from the fact that it literally could have been its own country, ppl are proud that it is actually the most self sufficient state.

It's a Texas thing. We are tall and proud cowboys who use to be our own country. The only state that can fly our flag up there with that of the good ol' U.S. of A. So we like to boast about it. Then again, we like to boast about everything.

What's wrong with living in a place you love? Maybe a few people should make a trip down here and see what it's all about! Take the same pride back to where ever y'all live!
I've got Texas pride because this place is home, most of the poeple are friendly, and Texas is just an wonderful place!
FYI we have as many fat people here as where you live!
We are a part of America and therefore you should not have anything bad to say about us because as a country we are one. Lets grow up and learn to unite like we were for a few months 5 years ago (and stay that way).

Well, just look around. We have the Rose Capital of the United States, Tyler has Azalea Trails, etc. We are a generous community, helping those in need. There are many trees in East Texas, and almost desert land in West Texas. I'm 37 and haven't felt an earthquake yet : )
Don't forget Six Flags, water parks, museums, Medieval Times, and the water gardens and zoos, and we're in the Bible belt!

kj
We have the friendliest people, with the most diversity. We have many different landscape choices from the piny woods of east Texas to the plains of west Texas, not to mention a variety of weather patterns.
Our state constitution gives us more freedoms than other states, such as our flag may fly at the same height as the U.S. flag, our state capitol building can be the same height as the U.S. Capitol building, we retained the right to split from the U.S. if we so desire and govern ourselves.
We have the Great State Fair of Texas with Big Tex, Fletcher's corny dogs, and the Cotton Bowl.
Texas is NOT in 'the south", Texas is where the West begins. We have Shiner Bock, the Dallas Cowboys, 6-Flags over Texas (the original), Shiner Bock, San Antonio River Walk, 6th St. in Austin, Billy Bob's, and did I mention Shiner Bock?
Also......G.W. Bush is NOT from Texas. He was NOT born here, he was born in New Haven, Conn., and NO native Texan I know claims him. No matter how many times he says he is, he CAN'T be a Native Texan!

Texas pride is a way of life here !! Give yourself time to acclimate !!

Texas is the only state in the union that was it's own country with a foriegn embassy (now a Tex Mex restaurant in London), a constitution, etc. We can fly our state flag at the same height as the US flag for that reason.

is there something wrong with texas pride? I love the state i live in.

What's wrong with patriotism? We live in a great state in a great country.

Maybe other states should be more proud of where they're from!

They have the most diverse climate, from rolling hills to coastal land. Deserts to plains. They grow much of the fruits and veggies for the country. They are rapidly expanding and made it through a great depression when many from other states went out west. Lakes, parks, rivers and camp sites dot the landscape. People are friendly and take the time to talk to you. I like going to Texas it is like a whole other country. We go there sometimes on vacation and it was very nice. Very laid back. It has a very high mexican population and the service is excellent. It has a western Mexican theme.
Also, great Mexican food which I love.
HOuses are still reasonablely priced and jobs easy to come by. Which for young people escaping the East Coast where a small apartment sells for a million and a half dollars.
They can by a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath house with a yard for under 200,000.

Everything is great about Texas. Get used to it. We have pride. Get used to that.

You're a "furriner" and you'll just have to adapt or leave.

I moved here 30 years ago. I hated it at first. It took me months to give Texas a chance. Once I did I stayed (aside from my stint in the Navy). Texas is like noplace else, ESPECIALLY not New York City.

The question should be what's not great about Texas? :)

We are the only state in the continental US that was our own country. Texas has a lot diversity, not just with the people but with the places as well. We're the biggest state in the continental US (leading to the everything's bigger in Texas motto).

I think a lot of Texans love the fact that no matter where in the world you are, people know about Texas, even if they do think we all ride horses everywhere we go and own cows. :)
