San Francisco is nice, but a big city and a very expensive place to live.
That pretty much goes for most of California, and the natural disaster possibilities (earthquakes, mudslides and forest fires) offset much of the appeal. Consider the mountains of North Carolina.

Asheville is a great small city that consistently ranks amongst the best places to live in the US.

It has all of the big city offerings without the hassle of a big city...like crime, pollution and congestion. Asheville has a mild four season climate, with summer highs reaching the low to mid 80's, and low humidity. The winters stay pretty mild as well....mid 40's for highs in just January...well into the 50's the rest of winter.

There are plenty of lakes and rivers nearby. I love Lake Lure.

I attached some links to check out. Good luck!

Southern California. It can get a bit hot in the summer, but remember that there is barely any humidity in Southern California so it doesn't feel all sticky and hot like it can get in Florida.

Definitely southern California- almost always in the 70's, of course big cities like Los Angeles and San Diego, and the ocean :)

Chicago, you might want to accept the fact that it wont be a perfect temp year round in any city in the US. But it has all the other features, about an hour from the country, lake Michigan, and about 5 months out of the year the temp is between 60 - 80
