Personally, I enjoy exploring places and finding interesting features that are not necessarily well advertised. Some places that were great for me were Key West, St. Augustine and Cocoa Village in Florida. There were lots of things to see and do. The Kennedy Space Center and associated activities is interesting to many people, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time in those areas. However, I would avoid those areas during hurricane season unless you are particularly adventurous.
Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico is an awesome place to visit. It was like nothing else I have ever seen in my life. It might even top Niagara Falls for me because at Carlsbad you can actually see everything close up and walk for miles through the caverns.
Niagara Falls is a spectacular place to visit, more suitable for couples than single people, but still fun. Be aware that it is very commercialized.
On my own list of things to do is a visit to the Grand Canyon. I haven't been there, but I think it would be a great vacation.
If you are interested in a Canadian vacation, Canada is a huge country with much to offer, so you would have to pick an area. Atlantic Canada is amazing in terms of scenery, culture, and the friendliness of the people, and you will find many things to do, but not many of the usual "big picture" tourist scenes. Think whale watching, bird sanctuaries, cultural events, music, museums, boating, fishing, wonderful food, fantastic scenery, exciting night life.
If you are on a tight budget, sometimes the best vacation is close to home. Check out possibilities close to home and you might be surprised about what you will find.
Sometimes people overlook visiting a city as a vacation plan. Cities have numerous things to see and do. I spent three weeks last summer anchored on a sailboat in Washington Channel at Washington, DC, and visited many sites in Washington. The Smithsonian alone takes several days to see.
A few years ago I spent a weekend in Savannah, Georgia. I want to go back because there is so much to see in that wonderful city.
So I guess what I am saying is that the best place to vacation depends on the person doing the vacationing and there is no one answer that can apply. |
