Familes-- West University. Singles-- Midtown. Try to stay in the loop; Katy, Friendswood, Sugar Land-- those are all nice places, but aren't actually Houston (your mail won't go to "houston")-- some are a full hour outside of downtown!

It just matters what kind of area you want to live in. I live in the Friendswood, Clear Lake area and I love it out there. Katy is expanding big time new home are popping up everywhere out there. The Heights is nice place, the homes are very beautiful, but the price to buy a place out there is very high. There is also the Montrose area, Rice Village, The Woodlands and Sugarland just to name a few more places.

SOME WERE NEAR KATY

I would have to say that the north part of Houston is the best. I have lived ALLL over! From Stinkydena, to Conroe and everywhere in between.

I would stay away from the south, and southwest sides. (Can be very, uh, how do you call it.. ghetto? lol). I have lived on the north side for a few years and I will never go back to the south.

Look for places in Spring, (who has one of the top school districts in the US) - or The Woodlands, FULL of plush landscaping and is very upscale, etc.

Its tough to say though as everyone has their own preference. Hope this helps some though.

River Oaks. Memorial. To a lesser extent places like West U and Bellaire. Some of the new build areas far out of town (out in Cypress and Katy) are impressive, too.

I live in Memorial. Homes keep their value and crime is low.

The Heights. You will love it here.

when it comes to a low crime rate, good public and private schools, shooping, restaurants, grocery stores, and even great places to play and work. And if you want a short commute to all the major hotspots in houston, It's gotta be West University!

Dani
Bellaire and West University. Both are within the loop. Nice neighborhoods for families and singles as well. Nice, small parks. Both are small cities within a large city and have their own police/fire departments.

Live as close as you can to school and work. Stay out of Pasadena (we call it Stinkadena). Inner Loop is right downtown. There are lots of new lofts and old homes being restored, especially in the Heights and Montrose. ( My two favorite parts of town.) Friendswood is quiet with great schools, Seabrook is on Galveston Bay, Nassau Bay is close to NASA and Clear Lake. River Oaks is where the old money lives and Memorial is where the nuveau riche live. I guess it depends on your lifestyle.

Sugar Land was named the 3rd best place to live in the United States by CNN/Money Magazine.

I used to live in Pasadena just about a half mile from Gilley's and it seemed like a really nice place to live but that was over 20 years ago.
