Lots of things to consider here. Will you be buying a house? Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas all have good large towns in which you can buy good houses for around $150,000. That's pretty cheap these days. These states have relatively low property taxes, too.
Is your income large enough for income taxes to be a big worry? South Dakota has no income tax, and there are several nice cities in which to live - Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls would be on my list.
How do you feel about living in very decent but very quiet tiny midwestern towns? Believe it or not, you can buy perfectly good, decent houses for under $20,000 in some of these! You'll have a hard time finding a decent job, though.
So, it depends upon your situation. You'll need to do some research. |

Oregon is probably the cheapest state to live in without living in a ****hole. Oregon has no state TAX. But if you want really cheap, you'll have to settel with the ghetto. |

wow I do not know why alot of people are saying like Washington and Illinois, espically Florida. They are all on the sort of higher priced places.
Kentucky is very cheap espically for what you get as in home, Kansas and maybe like the dakotas. But I would pick Kentucky over all them. |

Alaska. There is no sales tax and no income tax. For every year that you live there they give you check for every person that lives in your house from the oil money. Granted you may get attacked by a polar bear, but that is YOU pay. |

I've heard that West Virginia is a really cheap state to live in. I believe you can still buy a house there for $40,000. |
