Probably would be to get a bus ticket, something I am only recommending because you asked for the cheapest. It will quite possibly be a longer than normal and uncomfortable trip, depending on the amount of stops and the amount of people on the bus. I took a bus ride and I will never get on another Bus again. Too many people, too many stops, not enough leg room, uncomfortable seats, and not to mention if there is a cougher on the bus. You are sitting and breathing in everyone's germs; along with the port a john on the back to use the restroom. Goodness forbids if someone goes in and drops a stinky load. But the buses do tend to be cheaper, unless of course you can find someone who is going your way and can hop a ride. Make sure you check the person out and know them pretty well, to ensure that you reach your final destination safely and in one piece. Or make it a trip and see if anyone else wants to come along for the ride, rent a car and share the rental fee and gas expenses. All the best. |

A ride on the Greyhound bus would be the least expensive way to travel to San Francisco |

SF (and is San Francisco, not Fransisco BTW) to LA is best done via driving, but for cheap flights JetBlue's service from Oakland to Long Beach is the cheapest flight. If you can't swing it, you're taking Greyhound. |

There are almost always cheap flights going back and forth. We flew up there in May for $59 one way and just a month ago I had a friend that flew there for $39 one way. That is way cheaper than even driving is. Southwest usually runs these deals but when we went we were on United so just check out travelocity and priceline to find the best deals. |

Southwest airlines to Oakland if you have 2 weeks in advance. The round trip will cost you about $ 120.00. Greyhound bus will cost you about $90. Take the overnight express, the trip will not be too long but still uncomfortable. Or drive a car. Amtrak is the longest and lots of transfers will cost you about $ $120 |
