Actually, I am from Louisiana, and I tried Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri. I ended up back in Louisiana. Louisiana is the nicest place to live, and I am living in an area where I don't even fit into the culture. Arkansas was good, Missiouri and Texas sucked. |

have u lived in Louisiana ? .. or visited new orleans for more then 2 weeks ? .. if not .. then you must be mistaken..
New Orleans is by far one of the best cities in the US. it has something no other city has. AND THATS CULTURE.
the Cajuns, Cajun and creol food, Po Boys, Popeyes, Copelands, Zapps Chips, snow balls. Jazz, blues and zydeco music. the seafood, Crawfish boils, the festivals. the cajun language. the traditions. Ghost huntings and voodoo. River boat cruises, Mardi Gras, alligators and crabbing. Bourbon street and the French Quarter. Garden District. Harry Connic jr. The famous drink the hurricane. The Buildings of hundreds of years with such history. The Amazing Spanish and French architecture. And thats only to list a few. When you step into the airport arriving into new orleans.. you can feel it in the Atmosphere.. You can feel the sense of new orleans.. and its beautiful. Now anyone who wouldn't agree.. apparently hasn't experienced any of these..
No one can deny such a culture.
because thats.. The Spirit of New Orleans |

Louisiana. Just outside of New Orleans in a cage, knowing you're so close, yet so far away to the best damn city anywhere. |

I just wanna say ditto to everything soodamncold said. The culture down here isn't something you buy in a gift shop, it's something that flows through your body. Why do you think so many people that lost their homes are coming back? Why are people in the Lower Ninth fighting to keep their homes? Why are people in Grand Isle rebuilding? Why is it, that when people try to move away, the first thing they notice is that the food just doesn't paint their palate like it did down here?
Why is it you gotta hate? Get a clue. |

I hate it here in Texas. It sucks. I love Louisiana! New Orleans kicks ***. New Orleanians throw the best parties(Mardi Gras) cook the best food, have the best culture, hell, we even have our own language here. Louisiana, New Orleans, in particular, one of the most unique places to live. Trust me, although New Orleans has suffered a little setback(yes, Katrina) it's coming back, bigger and better than ever. You will eat your words on some French bread with hot sauce and ketchup. DAMN, now I want a oyster sandwich. I miss New Orleans and I can't wait to come back. |

I've lived in many states...never Louisiana though. I'd have to say North Dakota or Georgia. I'm sure there are folks out there that will flip because they love those places...but not I. |

It depends on how much money you have. I've been to a lot of states that really suck. |

Wisconsin! Unless you have a ton of money to spend, there's not much to do here and the winters are brutal. |

Ya definitely Louisiana!! It wasn't as bad pre-Katrina, but it still was not at the level that the east coast and west coast are at. I think that the best states are on the west and east coasts. They are the most diverse atleast. |

Obviously, wherever you live. So if you live in Louisiana, then, Louisiana it is. |

I have lived in Louisiana for my entire life and it is not that bad. Yeah our economy sucks but we can only blame the government and the unemployed for that. Not all of the schools suck it just depends on where you live. There is more to Louisiana than just New Orleans though and you don't have to live in New Orleans, most people don't. They live in Jefferson Parish or the North Shore. Traffic is always horrible but what city actual has a steady flow of traffic. If you had to pick a place to live chose Baton Rouge or Lafayette; the schools are descent and the crime is not as bad. |

I was in Louisiana as a child, spent 30 years all over the world, CRIED like a wounded child when I ended up moving to Louisiana again... actually started enjoying it (before the sun brutally assaulted me, the humidity sucked the breath right out of my lungs and the mosquitoes tried to bleed me out)... then along came Katrina and I got to see the whole world watch people making arses/fools of themselves on CNN. The economy is a wreck, the schools are HORRIBLE... but still I'm retired here and happy as long as my A/C works.
However, with this year's drought (La Nina)... it will be a pretty yucky place to be.
But is it the worst????? Depends on perspective and experience.
But contrary to what some here think, New Orleans DOES indeed suck. The crime is rampant and it's filthy and drug/gang infested. Traffic used to be bad, but now it just smells like sewage, rot and mold. If you go you will get "Katrina cough" from the toxins and it's NOT worth it. Been there, done that--was thankful to leave. I worry about the kids going in on spring break to do clean up without proper decontamination suits. It's really bad--and yes, bodies STILL being found. |
