Like the first person said, the culture. You can prolly find some nicer beaches in the Bahama's, more tropical settings in Tahiti, and nicer greenery in New Zealand, but no where else in the world will you find a culture like ours. That's because Hawaii is the point where different cultures of the pacific rim meet and meld. Here you will find traditions taken from Japan, China, Philippines, Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti, and even South America, come together to what is now known as the Hawaiian Culture. Here, common courtesy and good manners are taught all throughout life, starting before potty training. |

I grew up on teh Pacific Coast, Monterey, Big Sur, and never thought I'd want to see Hawaii...
if a friend hadn't taken me there - I would have missed some of the most spectacular scenery ever witnessed in my life.
Words really can not convey how georgeous the Islands are -
and there's a literal "slowing of time" that I wish I could have brought home with me.
A place with Great JuJu!! |

The culture, people, foliage, surroundings, scent, feeling it gives you, spirit of Aloha, ocean, birds, all the animals, underwater and above, mountains, just the sheer beauty....i could go on and on like this forever. Been there four times and I can't express to you my love for it. |

It's formed from volcanoes NOT on the edge of a tectonic plate. Hawaii is located in the center of the Pacific Plate, so there shouldn't be volcanoes there, yet Hawaii exists!
It is a hot spot, and there are theories about how the Hawaiian island volcanoes formed, but it has not been proven, so it's quite a geological wonder! |

Hawaii is a beautiful melting pot of different nationalities, each unique in their own way.
And the food is darn good!
It's all about the aloha spirit! |

The clash between native hawaiians and military. Some hawaiians dont want to be part of the United States. But the aloha spirit is something truly unique... such a positive energy. I guess for sociologists its a great study of immigration and assimilation. |

It's the only place in the US that grows coffee for one thing. |

Because it's so far away from any polluted area the waters are clear and beautiful, the air is like silk, the islands are small, cosy and very, very clean.
A real heaven on earth - but it comes at a price, check your budget as everything has to be delivered to Hawaii long distance so it's way more expensive than US in general. |

Not Much!!! I have lived here for two years now and after the first six months of water sports tourist attractions and the club scene I have to say I am so ready to get off this rock. I mean don't get me wrong the island is beautiful for the most part (with the exception of the few select ghettos throughout. and yes there are ghettos here) But if you are originally from the mainland (the connected states) and not really big on the beach life, you will find your self ready to go on another adventure. You have to check everything out for yourself first though. I've checked it out and it's not my cup of tea but you might like it. get with a travel office and they will give you a book of all the hot spots it's totally free. check it all out and then you can make a more sound decision ALOHA! |
