Your Uncle's so I can show you about this hillbilly place we live and call home. Then if your lucky and not wore out your welcome (JKing), I will take you out on the boat and you can try your luck at fishing. See how you handle a 50# cat on the end of the line. Many good places to see and visit here in the states. It is a land of beauty and wonders. Many, MANY superb places of culture and history to see. For most part "We the People" are fantastic, caring and full of hospitality.
You'll be like Jenny, you won't want to go back to the UK.

In short...a must see place you yet got meet!
Now get yur azz over here! You got a place 2 stay!

The National Parks, especially Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. Washington, D.C. New York City. San Francisco. There are so many wonderful places! It really depends on your own interests. To begin, get a guidebook or a travel book on the U.S. from your local library or bookstore, or consult www.frommers.com.

Well can can hike the Grand canyon in Arizona. It has a breath-taking view and like i said you can hike it or raft it. There are many places to see another that i would suggest would be Niagra Falls. Both are outdoor places, you said you wanted to "explore a lil" so there you go. have fun.

I'd suggest southern Utah, the Oregon coast and even a trip to Disneyland in California. All interesting and you will meet many people there. I'd also visit San Francisco if I were you. In fact fly into San Francisco, stay a few days, drive north on US highway 101 through the redwood forests then stop overnight in Brookings, Oregon, travel north to Newport. Oregon and stay a night, then continue on to the Portland area, stay a few days and fly home from there. How much time do you have and where are you from?

Grand Canyon. There aren't any others. Also, if you like nature, there are about 5 national parks along the same highway in AZ/UT.

My friend from small town Australia loved Montana.

I'm from UTAH, It's a state in the western united states. There is a ton to see here. There are several national parks that are visited by millions of people each year. Bryce canyon, Arches national Park, Canyonlands, Zion national park, Dead horse point, Lake powell, glenn canyon dam, Temple Square in salt lake city, and in the states north and south of us, you have yellowstone on the north, and The grand canyon on the south. Some of the most spactacular scenery on earth.
Also In utah, you have goblin valley, Monument valley, It's absolutley beautiful. A must see before you die.

I am American and wish I could explore it all. But there's Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, beautiful Hawaii, Mt Rushmore, Hollywood, Las Vegas, Disneyland, the Mojave
Desert, New York City . Many places are more expensive than orthers, so you'll need to do a little research. Good luck... and have a wonderful time.

You don't say how long you'll be here, but if it's just for a week, I suggest you focus on one region. It's such a huge country, you'd really be spreading yourself thin by trying to see even the top picks. The more time you have, the farther you can spread out from the center of your focus.

E.g. if you want to do the west coast, you would start in LA, SF or Seattle and spread out from those points. On the east coast, it would be NY, if the midwest, it would be Chicago -- not to say I'd recommend the midwest as your first trip unless you have friends or relatives there.

I know this doesn't provide the list you want, but if you'd like to reply, I can be more specific with stuff you should see in a particular region.

The USA is a very diverse country both in landscape and in culture. You need to decide what interests you the most. Do you want to do outdoors type stuff and see different terrains? Or do you want to do touristy stuff like see Disneyland, or Las Vegas, or Hollywood? What parts of the country do you want to check out? I am a very good tour guide as I have toured all over the world, so if you would like to chat more, email me at youthpastor1955@yahoo.com. I love this stuff.

I don't know whether you prefer cities or wilderness, so I'll include both.
For cities I really like Madison, Wisconsin and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mpls. has the outstanding characteristic that there is a lake nearly every 1500 yards clean enough to swim in. The people are very friendly and the city has great cultural attractions. Tuscon Arizona is also very interesting because of the surrounding desert.
For wilderness areas, the White Mountains of New Hampshire are easy of access and are studded with gorgeous waterfalls. The national forest around Seattle has hot springs, gigantic trees, and rivers so clean that even at 20 feet deep you can see every rock on the bottom. Arizona is totally interesting.

Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.

" A group of men sent to explore on three ships, not knowing what was in store, embarked upon a Virginia shore
exactly 400 years before.

With hungry stomachs and lonely hearts
each man had to do his part
to lay a foundation, not vanish in smoke
like the lost settlers of Roanoke.

Long, cold winters they suffered through
to make a place for me and you.
Completely out of their element,
they forged a lasting settlement.

Indians, settlers, and Africans found
a way to survive on common ground
and through all of their struggles, disease and strife
the American spirit was brought to life.
-Jamestown 2007 America's 400th Anniversary

Right next to Williamsburg is Jamestown. If you visit these 2 fabulous places you will be able to see pretty much the history of the United States of America. They are celebrating America's 400th Anniversary right now and it is the perfect time to pick up commemorative coins and other memorabilia that is limited. My Father just came out and picked up some silver and gold from there.

While your out there you have the option to go to Busch Gardens if you would like to go to a great Amusement Park which is also near by after you have learned your History of America (and enjoyed all the great festivities they have going on there).
This amusement park is great fun. You can look it all up on line. Of course it just does not depict it the same on line as it does when you are actually there for yourself. It is simply awesome. And if you said your a small town guy you would reallyyyy enjoy all of this!

If you want to top this all off? Washington D.C. is only but a 4 hour drive up the coast. Or a short plane ride away depending on your budget. You could see the Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian,National World War II Memorial or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. You could see all of it which i would.
BUT, unless you were out of your mind, you would NEED to include the drive by and possible tour of the White House.

I am sorry but to me those are ultimate must sees of the U.S.A.

In the Texas panhandle on the side of the highway (I forget which highway exactly) is the largest crucifix in the western hemisphere. It's really worth seeing, a good representation of how scary the US is.

There is something rather spectacular in most states however, some of the most impressive things might be:

1. The Grand Canyon
2. Niagara Falls
3. Mount Rushmore
4. The Statue of Liberty
5. The Mall of America
6. Disney World
7. Las Vegas
8. San Antonio's Riverwalk
9. The West Coast Redwood trees
10. Leadville, CO - it's 14,000+ ft. in elevation and is the highest cultivated city in the US. Going up the mountain is a trip in itself.

First of all WELCOME!

America is a large country with a lot of great places to see and visit.

If you show up in the early spring (March - April) and are in the mid-west (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, etc) then you can go tornado chasing.

Tourists from all over the world come here just for that reason alone.

Other posters here have suggested good touristy things to do as well.

Have fun!
