It sure isn't Florida. |

I would think it would depend on where you really want to live and if you can find work there. Parts of the rural Mid-west have very small towns with very reasonably priced homes in the $30,000-$50,000 range. Sometimes even less. |

I live in Florida, originally from Indiana, and lived for a time in both Colorado and Iowa.
However, if you are looking for CHEAPEST homes, you might want to consider Kansas. Here is why.
In many of the rural areas of Kansas, people are moving away to suburban and metro areas elsewhere in the U.S. Because of this, they are losing their tax base, and many rural communities are essentially becoming ghost towns.
In order to win people back to these communities and basically rebuild these rural areas, the State of Kansas is LITERALLY giving away FREE LAND. And, in many cases, will even help you find a job, start a business, help pay for the closing costs on your home, or help you build a NEW home, ON TOP OF giving you the free land!
You can go to http://www.kansasfreeland.com/ if you're interested in this.
For the record, though...............I have no intentions of leaving Florida. But, that's just me. *grin* Good luck! |

Cheapest homes can be found in rural areas of the South and Midwest. I recently bought a house for $50,000 in Indiana that was ready to be occupied. |

Kansas, and/or North or South Dakota. In some places, you get a great deal because they are trying to encourage development in that area. Typically, few want to live in these places so if you don't mind cornfields, and flat, boring terrain- then that state is for you. |

I'd say my area of West Virginia. I bought a house here for $29,000....three bedrooms, two baths, living room, dining room, kitchen, another small room big enough for a nursery, full basement, and a giant area upstairs that my son uses as an upstairs tv room. Great location...and not too far out of "civilization". |
