It's not. Washington D.C. is located in the District of Columbia (hence the D.C. part) which is between Maryland and Virginia. It does not fall under the jurisdiction of any state, it has its own taxes, services, etc. as if it was its own state. This was done in an attempt to keep the power of all states equal, so that no one state could claim superiority because it housed the capitol. |

It is not in a state, it is in a federal territory known as District of Columbia and local services are provided by the federal government. It sets between Maryland and Virgina |

It is not in a state. It is a district totally outside of being a state. It borders MD and VA but it is not a part of either. It was set up to be independent. |

Really? Honey. It's not a state nor is it located within a state. The District is an autonomous entity set apart from any state to house the federal government. Residents of the District have no representation in Congress. |

None. What is today Washington, DC, was originally part of Maryland. When Washington, DC, was first created, it was a square (diamond) that straddled the Potomac River, part of which had previously been part of Maryland and part of which had previously been part of Virginia. The part that was originally part of Virginia is now Arlington, Virginia and no longer part of Washington, DC (however, the Pentagon is in that part, but has a Washington, DC, mailing address). The part that was originally part of Maryland is still Washington, DC, and is still not part of any state.
The Washington, DC, airports (both Reagan National and Dulles) and the Pentagon are in Virginia, not in Washington, DC. |
