OK well im 15 and last year I went to New York for my bday in december. It was miserably cold! For nicer occasions during the trip, you should try knit or wool dresses with tights and ballet flats. This outfit never really goes out of style. Gap has a lot of good stuff right now and a lot of it is on sale. For day time you should just wear jeans and cute (yet VERY warm) tops/sweaters and a cute coat, possibly a longish coat. You can get cute cheap coats at forever 21. Also at forever 21 there are adorable sweaters. Since you are on a budget (as most people are age are) get lots of things that can be combined to form several different outfits. Also try getting a pair of skinny jeans that are in a dark wash. You can wear these under boots (which are very important) or paired with ballet flats. Save some of your money so that when you get to NY you can stop on canal street and get awesome jewelry as well as fake scarfs and gloves. I went to see regis and kelly with my parents when I was there so you should definitely go see Tyra
Good Tips-
Don't be afraid to take risks with your outfits while in NY. You most likely wont see anyone you know and there are some total freaks there so no matter what you cant look weirder than them.
Don't rely on cabs to take you everywhere. Half of the cabs wont take you here you want go especially at night.
Don't even waste your time at Dylan's candy bar. Honestly its not that great and it is ALWAYS soooo packed, however I recommend going to look at barneys and bergdorfs just for fun
HAVE FUN |

Don't dress up too much unless you want to look like a tourist. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, you can't really do NYC without a lot of walking. And I don't know if it's important to mention, but since you're from Arizona it may be worth mentioning that it gets really cold in NY. Like well below freezing. So get a good coat.
As far as going to a show, something business casual should be fine, but you can get a little fancier if you want. Do not start thinking the Sex and the City is an accurate representation of NYC life and fashion. |

just remember this is not a fashion trip.. it's your grandmother's burial so i suggest you wear something chic and black, yet not so sloppy. perhaps a sleek coat, black tights/leg warmers, and back heels. however if you aren't able to walk in heels for hours, then you should stick to flats since you are going shopping |

New York City is the city of everything...there is no certain way that everyone dresses. You will find all sorts of people out there. Dress comfortably (and warm, its very cold, VERY cold) and wear something suitable for a funeral (black dress, or black pants with sweater). Wear long pants, socks, bring boots, scarf, gloves, sweaters....you get the idea |

Condolences to you on the loss of your grandmother.
Seriously, I would leave room in my bags and go shopping at H&M in NYC. The best shopping in the country is in New York, and H&M will fit your budget, trust me. Even if you go to an Old Navy in NYC, you're going to get a different selection than if you go to the one in your hometown, and not just because of the climate difference. New York is a competitive fashion market, that's why it's the best. Plus it'll give you something to do. |

i'm sorry about your grandmother passing away.
I was recently in NYC, so i know what girls are wearing there right now... boots with tight jeans or skirts and thick stockings, and a very warm coat, hat, gloves, and scarf. everyone is wearing boots of some sort, short or tall boots, it doesn't matter.
but most importantly, dress in layers and wear warm clothes. you will be walking around outside and riding the subway a lot, and trust me it is really really cold there right now. you should even wear some footless tights under your jeans or pants. it will help a lot for warmth. |

dark wash skinny jeans, definitely in right now. Long pea-coats with button ups, scarfs; plaid is very in with scarfs. Boots are always in, in New York. knit sweaters hats, and gloves. turtle neck turnovers ( the kind that fold down but dont go exactly on your neck) long shirts over skinny jeans or leggings. Turquoise and dark purple jewerly.
And i am very sorry for your loss. |

k im sorry.. i seriously think its a little harsh to like be worrying about what to wear when your own grandma is being burried.but luckily im understanding cuz my grandma was horrible to me and im not close with her at all to this day (shes still alive) so i guess i wont be to sad when she dies as sad as that sounds.. (sorry but hey i did nothingggggggggg!) uhm so clothes (my speciality) k so u want to do the jeans and the top is the spectac as long as u have a good fitting pair of jeans to flatter your body type (which you sound like u have) then your good now for the top (which everyone sees anyway) uhm so do a flow top or like a nice empire waste with a belt try to do some nice emphasis around the neckline or the sleeves if its short sleeves but if you wanna do long sleeve then just makes sure its a good neckline do some nice accecories if you tie your hair up do a bigger earing but the studs with huge diamond is totaly in right now or a simple hoop (if hair is TIED half way or all the way, with a cute side bang WORKS!) uhm.. yeah have fun and tyra is amazing so have fun! |
