Don't worry about it. If someone doesn't like it, that just means they're ignorant, trashy, and not well-rounded. But since you'll be in a school environment, you'll be fine. At most, you'll find people who'll be fascinated by you. Not everyone here jumps on a plane and travels the world so when we meet someone from another country, we're very interested! |

Most ppl will find your accent charming. Don't be offended if they think that you are Australian or English. When I travel in Europe, ppl on the continent always call me British (I'm American) and ppl in the UK often think that I'm Canadian. Have a great time in America! |

Well, what do Brits know anyway? They drink warm beer and think the proper way to eat a hamburger is with a fork and knife.
Actually, most people in the US like the accents from Australia and NZ. And 90% of people couldn't tell the difference between a Kiwi accent and an Aussie accent if their life depended on it.
You should have a wonderful time here in America. It's very different, but enjoy it. |

im from south australia i love people with different accents makes them stand out i know heaps of Filipinos i think they are gorgeous i think you will be fine!!
you just have to be confident with yourself that will make you stand out even more. just think about the reason why you are there and not what people think.
and if the subject comes up just give them the honest answer. don't be ashamed of who you are!! |

Do not worry dude. Relax. I was born in California, and I have an accent.I am like you, I have a small Hispanic accent. I dindt know I had an accent until, I talked to someone from Europe in my work and ask me if what part of Mexico was I from. I reply I was born in California. You see, I didnt notice it, until someone from Europe told me I had one. So chill. I attend Long Beach State and believe there so many people with different accent. Is common to hear an accent on people in Southern California. |

I'm from New Zealand.
Listen, whatever the yanks think, at least we don't nasally masacre words like 'pants', 'ants' etc by giving it a short 'a' sound. We are the fastest talking English speaking nation too, so we don't whine. In any case, i would think u would speak better than the US's outgoing presiddent. |
