Hi,
I've been in a trip to US in November till January last year and I can ensure you that the best place to be in the period you've mentioned (late November) is Las Vegas. The colors, the view, the casinos - Wow! If you want the best entertainment this is the place for you. I'm positive that even if you don't like to gamble you'll find a lot of other stuff to do there. I'll be in Las Vegas in the beginning of February so I can show you around. I know good places :-). If you want to know more about Las vegas and what there is to do in this wonderful place enter http://www.777.com/land-based-casinos/las-vegas Youll find there an interesting review and even some nice video clips.
Here is another interesting article about Las Vegas: http://www.777.com/articles/las-vegas-after-september-11th

If you want more information about this place please feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to assist.
Have a wonderful vacation my friend,

First off, where are you now?
Another question: is there any place you would to go but haven't because it would be too hot in summer and too expensive in winter? If you can find a place that's off-season at the moment, that would be a good bet. Less of a crowd and less $'s.
I'd suggest, like some others, staying more towards the southern U.S. to avoid problems with possible early winter weather, unless you don't normally get to experience snow and wouldn't mind encountering some. |

I agree that California offers a lot of mild weather alternatives to, otherwise touristy crowded locations. You'll find the state parks and campground less crowded and beaches pristine and beautiful. Picturesque locations such as San Francisco and Carmel are comfortable and roomy without the crush of out of town visitors.
Fall season is the ideal time to visit desert wilderness areas like Death Valley National Monument because the temperatures drop to comfortable levels, and, what little rain does fall, brings out the rare, bright desert blooms.
Up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, skiing season should be open, so, if that is your interest, the resorts are strung most of the entire length of the state. I highly recommend the resorts at or near Lake Taho, as much as for the scenery as for great winter sports conditions.
The winter surf along California's North Coast is some of the most spectacular in the lower 48, with popular spots like Santa Cruz's Steamers Lane, and Half Moon Bay's Maverick's beaches sporting 20 to 30 foot waves. (be sure to bring a wet suit because the water is danged cold!) |

Southern California often has nice weather in late November. We have played volleyball in shorts on Thanksgiving day on a few occasions. Rain is a possibility but usually the days are warm, but the evenings can be chilly.
Oh and Eskie Lover - don't call it Santa Babs - you definitely sound non-local (I live near Solvang). But I agree, a great time to visit this area. |

Try Las Vegas at this time of year.
Nice and cool.
There is plenty to do, besides gambling.
Just make sure you have a nice bank account before you do. |

Las Veags is fun - was there last year in December and never needed more than a light jacket.
Why not the US Virgin Islands? Don't need a passport. St. Thomas is nice but St. John is beautiful. St. Croix is pretty too. Great beaches (you may get some waves in November) and fantastic snorkeling and diving. |

The best place to visit in late November is to your Mother's house for Thanksgiving, and you know it too. If the rest of us have to suffer, so do you. |

One word, California(= You could go anywhere there from palm springs (that's where me and my family go for thanksgiving) or you could go all the way up to San Fransisco!
Good luck and happy travels! |

New York City. The Christmas decorations will be up by 11/23. You will never run out of things to do. At MMA and some other great museums, you can pay whatever you want. Freebies include the Federal Reserve Bank tour (need reservations at least a week in advance), Central Park, and the Staten Island Ferry. Do NOT rent a car. If you are on a budget stay at Central Park West.
Gatlinburg TN - some leaves should still be on the trees during the last week in Nov. Gatlinburg is like Las Vegas with no gambling except it's in a National Park with lots of scenery everywhere. Allow at least 3 days.
Tucson AZ -- check out Mt. Lemmon - the southernmost ski area in the country (assuming there is snow by then) --and the AZ Desert Museum. One day is all you need for Tucson if you're on the road by 8 AM.
California - just about anywhere. At least half your time should be spent in that one state alone. Musts include San Diego, LA area, PCH, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite.
Portland OR
Seattle WA. Ride some ferries. |

California! The weather is mild, the tourist traffic is lower, there are lots of exciting things to do even off of the beaten path and everything is decorated for the holidays. If you go somewhere like Big Bear Lake there is even skiing by then. If you go between just above Santa Babs, there is Solvang, wine tasting, and you still aren't far from everything in the city. And you can day trip to San Simeon which is especially beautiful during the holidays.
My other suggestion, Asheville NC to Biltmore Castle. It is a wonderful little city and the mansion is just awesome. |

Hershey, Pennsylvania or up in the mountains of the Alleghenies or Poconos! It's beautiful in November with the leaves turning colors. It is a little later in the Fall season but it's still pretty. I should know, I'm originally from there, western Pa. |

I'm in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, and I can say, there is tons to do here all year 'round!
Virginia Beach is a hot spot during the summer, and so is Williamsburg, but they're also hot spots during the off peak tourist season as well!
Sure, the beach may be a little too cold for some during the winter (and I'm not recommending hanging out at the beach during November), but our weather is so diverse that time of year, you never know if it's going to be in the 50's or the 80's.
If you are into museums, zoo's, and aquariums, Hampton Roads is the place to go! Between the Beach and Williamsburg, you have your choice of aquariums, a zoo, and tons of museums, and living history areas to visit! Plus colonial Williamsburg is beautiful! |
