I live in Fresno( actually I live in Clovis which is a small town that is connected to Fresno). That is in the San Juaquin Valley. We are about 2-3 hrs from the coast. It takes about 4 hrs to get to LA that is of course depending on traffic. We are only about 3 hrs away from San Francisco. The weather here is pretty much the same all year long. It does get pretty hot during the summer but it doesnt get cold enough to snow very often. I have lived in the valley my entire life and I think it has only snowed twice in my life( I will be 28 in march). We do have some places only a couple hours away in the mountains where it does snow. We are only 2 hrs away from Sierra summit which is a pretty good ski resort. During the spring and fall the weather is really nice. Usually about the 70's. Today we had a high of 61(farenheit). So you can see we are not too far from the major cities. You can get anywhere in California from here within 1 day. Fresno is pretty much in the middle of the state. If you went to Sacramento you would get better overall air quality but the traffic is much worse and home prices are much higher. If you go a little south to Bakersfield you get a lot of agricultural smog. Fresno is probably one of the cheaper places when it comes to housing prices. It is much less to get a house here than on the coast or in LA.
Another thing to think of is we have lots of clubs that like to showcase local talent. If you have any more questions about Fresno feel free to email me. I hope this helps. Good Luck on your search. God Bless!
P.S. Here is an example for apt prices. My Hubs and I rent a 2 bedroom apt with an attached 1 car garage and a small backyard w/washer dryer hookups for $725.00 a month. That is really good for Clovis which is just a little more expensive than Fresno. |

Pico Rivera,CA or Whittier,CA are both really good areas. I live in Pico Rivera and go to school in Whittier. And their not that far away from L.A. Perhaps 20-30 minutes outside of L.A. and also about 45 minutes away from the Beach. |

The LA area is a desert, nice and warm. It's also extremely expensive. I recommend you look at the occupations and what relocation options are available that take advantage of existing talents. Pay is usually lower than needed but commiserate with the cost of living in the area. Almost anywhere in Southern California will be warm. There are several resort communities in the mountains. I suggest you get some maps from AAA and take a road trip. The housing will give you sticker shock unless you're from one of the wealthy suburbs around Chicago. |

Vegas is nice but cold in the winter...not as bad as chicago.
Houses prices are a bit lower than Cal but not by much.
California is mega expensive wherever you go. |

There are some really neat towns in Nevada like Henderson. Its only a hop to LA without all of the frenzy. Cali is too expensive. Good Luck. |

Riverside, Calif is a great town.
It's about 2 1/2 hrs East of LA.
Get a map and look for Hwy 60 and follow it east from LA
Nevada is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Unless you like gambling it is mostly ranching |

I live in Las Vegas and absolutely HATE IT! It's expensive and there are SOOO many people it's ridiculous. There isn't much to do if you have kids... you have to be 21 to do practically ANYTHING here. Traffic sucks and there is always construction work being done. The primary color here is BROWN. Every house in every neighborhood is some shade of poo.
However... it's definitely warm here. And it only rains like 2 weeks out of the entire year. Which for me is bad... because I happen to like the rain.
With that being said... I would not recommend Vegas to anybody except gamblers or major party people! |

Depends what type of community you are looking for. California is expensive as hell. But newly developed cities you might consider like between Orange County and San Diego (rancho santa margarita, oceanside). Or between Orange County and Riverside Country (Corona, Temecula) .. there's also the semi new community up in Valencia County north of LA near magic mountain.
Nevada is really cheap compared to cali. But you get desert weather there.. hot summers, cold winters. But you can find a really nice place 30 minutes off the strip no problem. |

Okay, I have the answer for this one.
I'm twenty years old and I grew up in a little Town Called St.George.
I had one of the best child hoods there. I've lived in Cali, Las Vegas, and Florida. And that is such a great place to live.
its about four hours drive to Cali, and two hours to Vegas (perfect for before school shopping for your daughter)
it's a safe town, small enough so that everyone knows everyone, and yet still there is alot to do. The children are very nice there and its warm and everything is perfect there.
if you do go down to check it out go to Cafe Rio's
Best fresh mexican food around, I swear. I miss it so much!
Look it up, and better yet, go and visit for a couple of days. It's a great place to live. VERY family oriented.
St.George, Utah.
They have really nice places to live there, and its not as expensive as cali for vegas or anywhere like that. : )
The only thing is... it is a Mormon community. I am not mormon. But everyone else was... haha. But they are all very great people..... message me if you have any questions. |

Phoenix, AZ possibly? You would be four hours from LA,SD, and LV. You would still be in a pretty big city, actually I would say to check out the phoenix suburbs...probably one north of phoenix if you want to be a little closer to LV and to the west if you want to be a little closer to Cali. I know some people from chicago who really like the PHX area. Wherever you decide to move, you'll be out west and can just transfer somewhere else without the chicago to west coast hassle again. |

I have to agree with San Diego.
