Hi. I do a lot of traveling on business, and here are my thoughts for the perfect hotel (within reason).
1) Nice, comfortable rooms above all. Also, have a good workspace, as opposed to those tiny desks.
2) A functioning TV with a good array of channels. I really don't need PPV movies.
3) An on-site bar. Mind you, I don't get hammered every night, but it would be nice to have a convenient place to socialize with colleagues and clients, or even other guests. It gets lonely after 3-4 days on the road.
4) Good room service that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. $15 bucks for a hamburger? Please.
5) FREE high-speed internet connection. I live and die by e-mail. The last hotel where I stayed charged $9.95 a day for it. Are you kidding me? They got me that day, but there's no way I'll ever stay in that place again. To me, that's a cost of doing business, just like the sheets and towels. The same should be true of local calls.
6) Good soundproofing. Just stay in the same hotel as a high school band and you'll know what I mean.
7) Efficient checkin. I'm always surprised at the number of hotels that do not have well-trained, pleasant front desk clerks. |

Cleanliness is the most important thing, along with security! A nice complimentary breakfast is wonderful. Comfy beds, with more than 2 pillows. Comfy chair to relax in, and cable TV, with the movie channels. Bigger towels, because now a days people have bigger towels at home, and are used to them. You would want the colors of the rooms to be soothing, not bright and bold. Soft toilet paper, if you can get that in quanity. A basket of fruit, is a nice welcoming too. A friendly staff that is available 24/7. I think these things are important, I believe you want it to be like having the comforts of home away from home. |

Big rooms, comfortable beds, big swimming pools w/ waterslides, big bath tubs, and most importantly excellent employees who are helpful and happy to do anything they are asked. |

I would enjoy large towels and larger bath tubs. One of the things I dred about staying in a hotel is the bathroom. Such changes would solve that problem.
Larger breakfast nooks would be good also. I have stayed at too many hotels where I had to almost fight to get a seat when eating breakfast.
Another thing about towels: Put more towels in the bathroom. If the room has an occupancy of 4 people, put 4 sets of towels in the bathroom. I can't count the number of times I have stayed in a room with 3 other people and found only 3 sets of towels. I know that I could call room service to bring up another set of towels, but when I get up on the morning and realize that we are 1 set of towels short, I don't really feel like calling.
Also, full lenght mirrors are a plus. When I am on a business trip and stay at a hotel, I want to make sure I look good before I leave the room. It's hard to do that with a mirror that goes from your chest up.
One more thing: pillows. I don't like it when I put my head on a pillow and my head sinks down to the bed. I like pillows with some support. |

I definitely would be impressed by extra, large, fluffly pillow. A large bed should have enough large fluffly pillows. Also, better lighting in by the bathroom mirror(s). Perhaps a type of sound effects for those having trouble falling asleep away from home, like the soothing sounds of a waterfall, rain, etc. |

being handicap, above the knee amputee, wheelchair bound, i use a manual wheelchair.
more room between the beds and dressers for my wheelchair will go between easier when i need to use the restroom.
wider doorways, about 36 inches wide, (my wheelchair is 31 inches wide, it is larger than the standard size wheelchair.) don't make the ramp into the motel office, dinning facility, or rooms to steep.
make sure the shower bench in the bathroom is easy accessible, where i can transfer from my wheelchair to the bench and be able to move my wheelchair out of the way while i shower, and the shower head on a hose, (it makes it easier to rinse all the soap off). also put the shower knobs on the side of the shower next to the bench so i can reach them while on the bench.
lower counter tops in the office, where you sign in for the room, i pull up to the counter and it is up to my neck, it makes it hard to sign in for the room, (it is like a kid trying to see over the counter.)
in the dinning room or continental breakfast room, more room between the tables to get around in my wheelchair. where i don't have to ask people to move so i can get to an available table a crossed the room. (that irritates people when they have to move to let me through when they have already started to eat)
easy accessible to the swimming pool area (if you have one) so i can at least go to the pool area to enjoy the sun, even thought i won't be able to use it. (it take a special pool for handicap people, having hoya lifts and other equiptment used to get us in the water)
the bed should be adjustable, ( like the hospital beds, where it bends at the hips and knees and rises up to help us stand to transfer to our wheelchairs) it helps with confort, the flat bed is hard on some people's back.
the TV needs to be higher, (not on the dresser)
i know that not too many handicap people in wheelchairs get out like i do, but there is always the chance i could show up at your facility.
i know this might sound extreme, but i have ran into all these problems, and if i did not have someone with me at the times i was in the motels, i would have been a very unhappy customer.
being handicap is hard enough, but when you are in a world of non-handicap people, it is harder.
excuse me if there are any misspelled words, spell check did not work. also good luck with your plans, hope they work out. |
