Well, as General Sheridan once said, "If I owned Texas and hell, I'd rent out Texas and live in hell"

I find the weather bi-polar. Not too much snow.
It can get realllly hot, like even going though the Walmart parking lot causes you to sweat. Needless to say, parking spaces are valued by shade, not by closeness.

Drivers can be wild, but aren't they like that anywhere??

Let's see...during the summer there may be afternoon showers. Plenty to do if you live in Houston, Dallas, Austin or San Antonio. Other than that sometimes it's more like a dry hole. The soil is very clay-ey, very tan-like.

Weeds love it here, cacti love it here, oaks and pine trees love it here too. I don't see many different trees. Often, it's either oak or pine.

The major highways are I-10 and I-45, among others.

Really, you either like it or you hate it. If you get bored, you will hate it. Bring something with you, either a family member or games.

And no, it's not all completely flat! Some places in Texas actually have rolling hills and some have mountains, although they won't be setting any height records!

And no, we're not all strange. We're people. We just sometimes say howdy or ya'll. You probably won't encounter someone saying howdy but you will encounter someone saying ya'll for sure.

Texas IS heaven and hell all rolled into one. It will be hotter than hell, but the people will be nice, smiling, and as helpful as can be.

It's gonna be hot than a muther ****** this summer!! Temps reaching in the 105F with high humidity... North texas weather varies from day to day, but overall it should be ok. You spend most of your time indoors anyways. I live in Dallas (about 25 miles from Rockwall). You'll be close to lake Ray Hubbard, so expect to go there to cool off on your days off...

Texas has it all, and Texas is NOT completely flat. There are some good size hills south of Tyler, and there are many mountains in West Texas that are over 5,000 ft.
Anything you want can be found in Texas except ice bergs.

well in the summer, it gets really hot. and if you like food, you'll love Texas! Rockwall is not bad but theres better places to go in TX.

Rockwall has a great lake and thats about it. It is about 15 minutes from downtown.

Texas is not like what most people think it will be like. I have a friend from Austrlia who came and visited last summer. She was disappointed because there wasnt a lot of ranches, cowboys and flat land. That is what she thought Texas would be like and it isnt - exspecially around dallas. Here are some things to do in Dallas.

Dallas - where I am from. Lower Greenville Ave for night life or W hotel Pure club. Anatole Hotel has a Free Jazz club on the 19th floor called Nana. Around McKinney Ave. By West Village - a few hot spots. West Village is nice area to walk around daytime. Northpark mall - great for shopping, If your into alternative styles - Deep Ellum or Oak Lawn. Dont do Southfork ranch unless you really like the TV show Dallas. Las Colinas is nice. Gilley's if your into country music. If you want to explore Dallas get on the train. exit mockingbird station, it is a small area. Get off at Cityplace station and go up to the Trolley stop. When exiting the station make sure you go to the Cityplace Station West Entrance. When you get up to the top you can catch a trolley for free. the trolley will take you to west village, mckinney ave. where there are a lot of places to eat, and goes down to the Dallas Muesuem of Art. If you want to go downtown - exit at west end. west end is now closed down but there are still places to eat around that area, then go to from there you can take the train to union station where you can go to the dally plaza (where kenedy was shot), you can go to the hallucaust museum, thanksgiving square, and go up into the ball. There is a restuarant - pretty cheap at the top and it goes in one whole cirlce every hour.

Since no one else mentioned it, the weather here is crazy!!!! It changes from day to day. Right now it is tornado season.

Rockwall is nice now days, I just moved from there after living there 12yrs. Lots of new restaurants and shopping, they have a board walk down on the lake with a new movie theater. There is a Bass Pro Shop across the lake. You can rent jet skis and stuff from probably any of the marinas. The lake pretty much makes the town, not a ton of things to do but it was a nice place to live.

pommie70
Rockwall is a very nice city. It is on Lake Ray Hubbard, which is awesome. They also have great schools. The people there are mostly upper middle class.

Texas in general in the summer is HOT and humid. We don't get much rain during the summer. People are friendly and will welcome you. I hope you have a good summer in Texas!

shadouse
It will be hot and humid. The people here are really nice face to face. Once they get behind the wheel they change, as one lady put it they will run to open a door for her and then try to run her down in their car.
Rockwall is a nice large town/small city. I live nearby in a small town. Most of the restaurants are chains so you probably have the same things where you are from. Shopping pretty much the same as well.
Really look for things here different than where are are from. Those will be the things you like the most. If you have never been to a brazilian steakhouse go to one.

check out cajun catfish restaurant in Rockwall if you like catfish, it's awesome. TEXAS RULES!!! But be prepared to be HOT.

Cisco Man
Texas is a nice place with friendly people. Rockwall is near Dallas so you should be able to find plenty to do. It can get quite hot in the summer so try to stay cool. Have fun.

Texas is beatiful!! Rockwall is great. I do not live there although I love to shop there. Summers are hot as hell but it is great here in TEXAS!!

RN2B
EXTREMELY HOT!!!!

James W.
Rockwall is nice. There appears to be evidence of people who have moved there from Georgia (since the Walmart has Brunswick Stew, a stew from the Atlantic coast of Georgia, not found in any other Walmart in this part of Texas). It is a nice town to visit in Texas since it is right on a lake and the people have a 'Southern' downhome friendliness.
