Whats the best place to eat in Las Vegas?

I am going to vegas. I won't be wandering too far from the strip or freemont. I want good grub...and I want cheap grub. A mixsture. All I know now is to stay away from the dogs at Slots a fun.
Additional Details
Where to go. Not a huge buffet fun. I plan on visiting cravings at the mirage. But where to go for a cheap burger? Where to go for a nice classy dinner? Fast food? I can only recall a Macdonalds by Circus Circus. What else? I would like a Variety of eats. Last time I went I spent money repatedly on Dogs at Slots A Fun....then I tried one sober....I think it may be raccoon.

$4.95 steak dinner at Ellis Island>It's not on the menu you have to ask for it.

$6.99 Prime rib dinner at California

$7.77 Steak & Shrimp at Hard Rock>Again this one is not on the menu you have to ask for it

The "graveyard" specials at some LV hotels are incredible deals. For a complete list
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com >graveyard specials
Most of these specials are in the $1-$2-$3 range and they are very good. The casinos use them as loss leaders to draw gamblers into the casino when it's slow.

There is a Burger King in O'sheas

Most of the mega resorts have a food court

I like Terrible Mike's at the Orleans for great burgers

A really great place to eat is the 777 Restaurant and Brew Club at Main Street Station - Draws are $1 after Midnight - You can have a great steak dinner a couple of beers and dessert all for under $15.

A cool place would be the "Top of The World" restaurant at the Stratosphere. It's 900ft up and rotates once per hour. Go for a late lunch then hang around to watch the sunset from the tower, it's an awesome sight. The sun sets, then the city lights come to life.

The .99c shrimp cocktails at the Golden Gate are a Las Vegas legend and have been on the Las Vegas Advisor's top ten list for 24 years

That $1.25 dog at Slots-A-Fun is huge, but the ones across the street at "Hound Doggies", located in Nickel Town at the Riviera are much better. The Slots-A-Fun hotdogs may be made from a hairy rodent but I don't think they are Racoon, not enough trees in the LV area to provide the Racoon road kill for all those dogs :-)

"I don't trust the Independent food stands randomly placed on the strip" >I know I'm not in Las Vegas every day, but I have been going since 1967 and spend 4-6 weeks a year in LV and have for over 20 years. I have never noticed one food cart/stand etc anywhere "on the strip" >Some of the sports books "inside" the major casinos offer hotdogs during events or on a regular basis. All the ones I have used remove the hotdogs from the heat and place them directly on the bun.

this is a tough question.. if you want cheap but good. try the rio buffett. Its probably around $15-25 depending on the time of day.

The Luxor has a cheaper one and its pretty good as well.

Also my favorite hamburger in the world is In-N-Out there is one not too far from the RIO a cab ride will cost you about $5 to get there from the RIO.

If you want to pay 35-45$ for an awesome buffett you can go to the one at Bellagio.

The best meal I have ever had in Vegas was at Le Cirque it cost me about $150 per person and was worth every penny...

the most fun you can have at dinner, go to the jousting dinner at the excalibur, you sit in the stands and eat roast chicken with your fingers and watch knights on horseback. just like the medieval times, sort of. There used to be a little itallian resturant in the stratosphere across from armadillos bar, it was tucked back in a corner and there was a little old man who played itallian songs and serenaded people, I really enjoyed that, dont know if its still there, and sadly Roxies bar and grille is gone, it was great. in ceasars palace a nice place to eat is the cheesecake factory, the onion straws are great and so is the cheesecake. as for cheap, the station casinos have a cheesburger lunch for 2.99. I dont know how close one is to downtown though.

In-N-out burger is always good. They have several locations around town. The closest to the strip is off of tropacana and the 15 FWY. If you do decide on a buffet I think the various Station casinos have the best value. The Palace Station for example is on Sahara just west of the strip and has a good dinner buffet for only about $8

I would suggest just hitting a buffet; there are lots to choose from. If you aren't going to be straying from the strip, they are your best bet for cheap food.

* Right before the strip on the side of the freeway there are clusters of stores. One of them is Vegas Pizza, and I personally love it there.

Most of the hotels have like a Cafe or Coffee shop. The one in NYNY called America is FANTASTIC! They have GREAT breakfasts! There's also a good food court there - pizza, hot dogs, Mexican food, Chinese food. It's all fairly reasonably priced and definitely decent.

My friend, who's a Vegas local, says the buffet at the Mirage is great - I went a few years ago and liked it, but they've completely revamped it in the last two or three years and it's supposed to be better than ever.

In-N-Out Burger is REALLY good, but I'm kind of partial to Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburgers... =)

Ellis Island has cheeeeaaap food specials.

Kahunaville at TI has good burgers.

between ( i think?) harrah's and venetian there is a little fast food place that has a chipotle and i think a panda express.

There is also the food court at the Fasion Show mall.. its just north of the TI, or i think TI even has a walk to it.

Well most of the Hotels have buffets thats cheap enough. Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Boulder Dam, Red Rocks, Mt. Charleston, are all things you can do in Vegas without gambling. Enjoy most of all.....

Vegas is awesome for food. I will list some places where you can eat for around $15 and under per person. If you want something cheaper look for fast food. Personally I don't trust the independant food stands randomly placed on the strip.

Yummy places:

Pf Chang's
Planet Hollywood
24/7 Cafe's at all casino's
Snacks at the Bellagio
Espn Grill
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville
Stage Deli
Kahunaville at Treasure Island

Drats, my mind is now blank. Lots of times casinos will float you a coupon book filled with goodies for their hotel. Good luck and happy munching.
