Los Olivos. I like to go there for small town getways and wine tasting.

Even better than San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay and Cambria and Moonstone Beach and Hearst Castle, better than San Francisco, better than San Diego is The Getty Museum in Malibu. Why? It's the exact rebuilding of a Roman villa, with ancient world art, statuary and gardens, set on a hill so remote you think you're looking out from the second-floor balcony onto the Mediterranean, not the Pacific.
The approach road has huge slightly-rounded blocks, a beautiful wall; and there's a long pool flanked by statues and bushes, and two wings with rows of columns and faux paintings, and a beautiful round concrete bench...
I only wish could have worn Roman dress when I used to be able to go there...

Yosemite. A picture does not do it justice- you have to visit Yosemite to believe it. The great granite rocks and gigantic Yosemite Falls, the smell of pines, redwood etc, the warmth of the summer and the snow of the winter. It is beauty.
And then there is the Mariposa Giant Redwood trees which themselves are hard to imagine without being their and seeing.

How come no one has said Tahoe!?!
Anyways Tahoe is probably my favorite place in California along with Berkeley and San Francisco. I really like Hearst Castle but its a ***** to drive and I really like Marin County.

I like things that are in the open but I also really like the city as well.

Aww, Brick beat me to it. As much as I like living in "The OC", and I Love LA, I love Yosemite.

Fortunately, I got reservations this year. WOOT! WOOT! I'll be there in 4 weeks, so Paris, Chiero, Copestir, Peedlepup, et. al, will have to cover for me during that week.

I'm from Calaveras County, a podunk little place full of small towns. I couldn't wait to leave. But after living in LA for 8 years, I miss the green of the hills in springtime and the way they smelled in summer. I miss the safety, knowing all of your neighbors even if you couldn't see another house from your porch, stuff like that. The closest town to our house had 600 people.
