We flew from Joplin,MO to NY last summer and stayed at a motel with indoor pool in Huntington for under $130.00. We rented a car and drove into the city and back. It was worth it to me because the hotel in NY wanted $225.00 the summer before and it was junk! If you want to email me I will find out which motel we stayed at and you can call them. |

Well I'm not really familiar with the NY area but, if you want a hotel at an affordable price I would suggest you check out this website ------------> http://www.choicehotels.com/ I used this website to help my aunt book a hotel in West Virginia |

It will be tough, and I assume you mean New York City. Best site for searching is here. You know New York isn't cheap so there are a few for that price but not many:

If I were you, I'd try one of the hotels in either Brooklyn or Queens or the airport hotels out in Queens. For example, there was a Howard Johnson on Queens Blvd. in Woodside right near the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. It was an easy cab ride from LaGuardia and maybe a 10- to 15-minute walk to the 7 train (subway), which brings you into 42nd St., and the Long Island Rail Road, which brings you into Penn Station. Try something along those lines. |

hostels are cheap - but look on any reviewing site (traveladvisor, etc.) and check for bedbugs - quite an infestation in NY hostels.
and be careful on Craigslist -- many sublets, rooms for rent are actually fake - many of the scams are overseas, and they post fake pictures of ny rooms.
there are hotels closer to JFK that are cheap for airline staff -- take the LIRR to manhattan.
some bed and breakfasts can be found for $95 -- if you look hard. Some in the Bronx are cheaper. Check reviews!!!! |

Check to see if there are any hostels. I just checked Bed and Breakfast.com and there are some for under $100.00 Good Luck |

People tend to overlook this.....how about staying at a BED AND BREAKFAST. You get a free breakfast, and get to stay in the city away from all the tourist attractions and get a feel of the city. Of course you can just grab a cab, or catch the train to anything you would want to visit. You'll also have a better choice of local bars with inexpensive touristy drinks. Being from New Orleans, I always search for a bed and breakfast first...being from a city a lot of tourist visit, I always want to avoid being the tourist in a new city. |
