Where's the best place to stay in Florida??

We went to Florida last year and going again in a few weeks. We went with Travelcitydirect and got a very good deal on the whole trip (Flights, Car Villa). Most places in Kissimmee are close to all the big attractions (Disney, MGM, Universal, Seaworld).

If you are not used to driving on the right hand side of the road then...give it a go...adds to the fun. We stayed in Kissimmee, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours drive by freeway, depending on traffic (that was from Sanford Airport. If you go to Orlando International the travelling is even shorter.

If you book the whole deal as a package the rental company give you a book and a "brief" route map. As it's your first trip see if you can get a flight that gets you into Florida early to late afternoon. Nothing worse than travelling in a strange country in the dark!! And, believe me the sun just drops when it goes down. No lingering sunsets. It gets to the horizon and someone just turns off the lights!!

If you want to be right in the middle of everything then a hotel on International Drive is ideal. Again, simialr driving times..maybe more as it's your first time.

As you are going in July take PLENTY of sun cream as it will get very hot during the day. If you can get out go out early (9 a.m ish to get to the parks, try out the rides then shelter at the hottest part of the day. If you stand in queues late in the day you could burn quite easily and your son could get very crotchety. Lots of water or fruit drinks to keep him, and you two, well hydrated.

I've lived in Central Florida all my life. Right now I'm in Winter Haven which is about 20 minutes from Kissimmie. I DEFINITELY reccommend going with Kissimmi. It's not too crowded, and just a few minutes from Orlando, and all the theme parks, and about an hour from Tampa in case you want to go over there to Busch Gardens or Adventure Island or whatever. It's also less than an hour away from some great beaches like Daytona, and Cocoa. It's a wonderful central location and there are some resorts there that are very reasonably priced. Hope that helps!

International Drive as its near to everything,wet and wild,shops,bars,food joints,disney parks.sea world,universal studios etc its great i went last year.

I lived in Port Charlotte it's a no-no cause their still rebuilding from hurricane charlie that hit in '05....Ocala is a nice place and it's just north of orlando. If you want something by a big city on the beach go with tampa

Yeah Kissimmee is great, near the parks etc. and loads of villas to choose from.

go online and seaqrch for villas in kissimmee. It generally works out cheaper than hotels and u have the whole place to yourselves own pool etc. Emerald Island is amazing. I've been to orlando 12 times and Emeerald Island is definately the way to go. NOT INTERNATIONAL DRIVE. Its so busy, walking is dangerous, its the most tacky place to be definately! There is also Formosa Gardens which is lovely. Emerald Island also has 3 bed townhouses which start at about Â£325 to rent. Much cheaper than a hotel would be. Have fun! Am very jealous!

Hi, Go to Florida regularly. If you haven't booked your flights yet, www.travelcity.co.uk have very reasonable flights. We try and stay at Vistana Resort on the us35. That is between the I4 and
and the Us192. They have swimming pools, hot tub, sauna and steam room as well as an activities room. They also lay on a programme for kids.The rooms have ensuite and in the Master bedroom is a lovely corner hot tub bath. It is also very close to all the parks Disney, Sea World and Universal Studios. It is an hours drive from Sanford (the same as Kissimmee). Port Charlotte is about 3 hours from Kissimmee making it a 4 hour journey from Sanford Airport. The nearest airport to Port Charlotte is Tampa airport. It is about a 1 and half hours drive from Tampa. Kissimmee is about a 30 minute drive from Orlando International Airport. It really depends on whether you want to do the parks or the beach. You could do both, but you would have the long drive on the way back. Kissimmee is about an hour and half drive from Tampa, so if you wanted to stay in Port Charlotte, but still visit the Disney Parks then the drive would be 3 hours to the parks. Perhaps you could book a motel for that night and drive back in the morning. If you are looking for a nearer beach then St. Petersburg, Daytona and Cocoa Beach are all about hour to an hour and half drive from Kissimmee. Hope this helps

Really there are a few factors to take into account, which airport are you arriving at(Orlando international or Sanford)
Orlando is just a stone throw from I4 motorway straight to int drive and kissimmee areas both within a short distance to Walt Disney sanford airport is about 45 Min's away either on I4 or minor road.Depending on what you want to do when in Florida really depends on where to stay.Look at the villas on offer and then where they are compared to the airport you will be arriving at if you are concerned about travelling.

I went last year and we stayed in Kissimmie. The resort was called LIKI TIKI. It was about 1 hour from Stanford airport. There is loads of stuff to do there like mini golf, shops and loads of places to eat. It isn't too far from Disney World and not too crouded.

stay somewhere in orlando cuz i went in the summer last year. and me and my family stayed in orlando and we walked international drive like every night. there is really nothing to do in kissimmie. i was there to for like 3 days and 1 week in orlando. and i stayed in the west gate and it was not far to walk to international drive. there is alot to do if you stay somewhere in orlando and by international like i did well i hope this helped and you have fun.

It depends on what type of area you want to stay in? International Drive is right in the heart of things and near to all major attractions -but it's an extremely busy place! Lake Buena Vista (where we stayed) is only about 15mins drive from Seaworld and Universal,and 5 mins from Disney-however it's a quiet area,very pleasant though!! Kissimmee is the furthest away from the attractions/theme parks but is still within easy driving distance and has lots of shops etc...or try Celebration which is near Kissimmee? Personally I would go for I-Drive or Lake Buena Vista.

WHEN WE WENT WE STAYED IN KISSIMMIE,IT WAS A FEW YEARS AGO,BUT IT WAS IDEAL FOR GETTING TO ALL THE ATTRACTIONS, WITHOUT TRAVELLING TO FAR.
