I love travelling to family in RI from NY. You pass through CT in the fall and it's such a beautiful living painting! Red, yellow, orange, and some green that have not yet faded. My eyes light up, as living in the city, such things are rare. I'd suggest travelling that way if you are in the area.
Have fun! |

I live in the mtns of the Carolina's and used to live in New England and have been through Quebec during the change of leaves. I have to say that the leaves are brightest, have a larger variety of color and stick around longest in New England.. mostly CT. Coming into CT from NY (not NY City) is so breathtaking, it can make ANYONE want to pull the car over and grab a canvas and paints. I hope you enjoy the foliage! It's coming up soon! |

The mountains of VA, NC, TN, and West VA. Any of those will be fine. Just go along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian trail and you will not be disappointed. |

I live in Indiana and we have a great fall. But Tennessee has more trees and are easier to see. |

If you are feeling a little more adventurous......come on up to Ontario or Quebec in late September. Beautiful reds, golds and oranges for miles. The air is crisp and the fall harvests are out in the markets. It really is one of the most wonderful times of the year up here.
Hope to see you some time. |

Two places come to mind: The Adirondaks in upper NY state. I found them to be the best in New England, especially around Lake Placid and Lake George. The other place is the San Juan Mountains of Colorado when the aspen trees are turning color. It is hard to pick between them and they are very different from each other. |

Since you are limiting yourself to the states, then Penn and Indiana both have some rather spectacular long drives filled with fall colours as well as some good places to hike. |
