My personal favorite - Torrey Pines State Beach just south of Del Mar. Also great swimming and some surfers.
Others:
La Jolla Coves
Windansea beach in La Jolla
Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach
Cabrillo National Monument at Point Loma
The beach at Hotel del Coronado
The Silver Strand running from Coronado to Imperial Beach
Imperial Beach
People who told you the Embarcadero are mistaken - you won't see the sunset from the Embarcadero - Point Loma and Coronado Island will get in the way.
P.S. If you can time it right and the sky is clear, plan to be crossing the Coronado Bay Bridge from east to west right at sundown - it will absolutely blow you away! |

Two of the most awesome sunsets I've seen:
Maui, Hawaii. (The sun set into the ocean).
The Grand Canyon. (The incredible detail it gave the entire canyon was awesome). |

The dock - by the Star of India. Point Loma Lighthouse. Of course, the beach - La Jolla is well known and beautiful, but just about any will do. I got some good pics around the Hotel del Coronado. |

You mean in San Diego? Sunset Cliffs, Mission Beach, OR Mt. Soledad, you can see everything from there, it is beautiful. La Jolla is nice too. I don't know there are just so many great places. |
