Where is a cheap yet nice hotel to stay in on the Vegas Strip? |

I find the best values to be;
Monte Carlo
Luxor
Bally's
Harrah's
I state value as opposed to price simply because in Las Vegas you really get what you pay for. There are Cheaper hotels such as Circus-Circus or the Stratosphere but they are too remote. If you take taxis to get around you quickly end up paying just as much as you would have paid to stay at a more expensive hotel in the middle of the action. If you use public transportation, you waste an enormous amount of valuable vacation time.
Shop for the best deal at the above hotels or any others in the thick of things and you will get far more bang for your vacation buck.
I placed them in my order of preference. The Monte Carlo and Luxor are in the same price range and area but the Luxor hotel is very confusing to navigate. Even trying to find the restrooms in the casino can be an adventure.
The other two are have great locations but tend to cost more.
I attached a link where you can find promo codes for hotels in Las Vegas. They can save you a lot of money but make sure you read and understand the rules and restrictions.
I did not include the Imperial Palace because it is not up to the same standards as the others and mostly because of the infernally slow elevators! Because they are so slow often crowds form waiting for them so that they fill up quickly and then you have to wait some more. Totally unacceptable and not the case in any of the other hotels.
Good Luck!

I really liked the Imperial Palace. I see a lot of people online say they have had bad experiences there but I had a pleasant time there. It was pretty cheap, too. When I stayed (during high season, it was only $50) |

Harrah's and The Flamingo are always affordable and very nice. Imperial Palace and Riviera are also affordable but not very nice. |

Excalibur is always a good buy. It is basic lodging, but the rooms are a good size, clean, and the I enjoy the casino. It has definitely gotten run down over the years, and lately maintenance has been somewhat let go, but it is still a good buy.
If you can bear being one block off the strip, I have stayed twice at Hooters. This is a small, by Vegas standards, hotel and that is not all bad. The atmosphere is laid back, the pool area friendly, and what the heck, the Hooters girls make great eye candy.
For a phenominal pool, and often rooms under $100, try the Flamingo. It has one of the two best pools on the strip. |

The cheapest hotel on the strip is definitely the Imperial Palace. You can usually find rooms for around $99 on the weekends (although this really depends on conventions and the season)
The weekly rates are usually around $50-$70.
It's by far the best bang-for-your-buck hotel located right in the middle of the strip.
Lots of the hotels have promotional code offers you can use to get discounts directly with the hotel. Make sure you find one before you book... you can save A LOT of money this way . |

Bally's, Harrah's and Flamingo are central on the strip. I have stayed at those and would stay there again. Caesars is great too but not cheap.
Each person's definition of cheap is different. If cheap is $200 then look to Caesars, Bellagio mid week. Mirage and TI weekend.
If this is your 1st trip to LV look for something center of the strip.
As long as the place is clean and "SAFE" you won't be in the room for much more then the "4 S's".
Try to get to Fremont on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. It's a BIG street party.
Don't rent a car on your 1st trip. You will spend more time parking or waiting for valet to get from one casino to the other. Besides you won't believe the people watching experience of the strip. Fun Fun Fun |

It depends on your definition of "on the strip." I stayed at the Barbary Coast once because it was cheap, but it's a few minutes (on foot of course!) from the strip. I've also stayed at The Greek Isle because World's Greatest Magic is there and it's cheap, but it's more of a fifteen minute walk from the strip.
To answer your question, Tropicana is reasonable and it's at a very good location near the south end of the strip. |
