You could always do Chicago and the beach there, but that's an expensive one. For a cheaper, albeit trashier, excursion, try Cedar Point of Kings Island or Sea World or something. Midwest, fun rides/attractions, and it won't break the bank. |

My favorite vacation in the mid-west is Gatlinburg, TN. It has everything you could possibly want. The cost is minimal. It has a haunted house, Ripley's believe it or not museum, those old time picture takers, Dollywood for amusement, fishing, camping, lodges with jaccuzies. Litterally, any thing you want to make of it.
I'm from Indiana and I go every chance I get. |

Depends on what part of the midwest... Missouri has the Lake of the Ozarks. Colorado has cabins you can rent, just have to take/buy your own food-www.vrbo.com Not much here in KS Six Flags in TX still I believe |

Indiana dunes in Northwest Indiana is a great vacation spot. Swimming, hiking, camping, cabin rentals, nature tours, great shopping nearby, zoo in Michigan city...close, a great water park within 10 miles. Chicago just 45 minutes away. Lots to do in N/W Indiana! Check out http://www.in.gov/visitindiana/regions/north/driving_tour.asp |

Lawrence, Ks is pretty nice this time of year. It's got a lot of museums in town and there is a big amusement park called Worlds of Fun about an hour away. There are also a couple of really nice hotels in the downtown area and all kinds of restaurants within walking distance. There's a big public pool and there are a lot of parks near downtown. It's also a very safe, friendly town. |

It depends on what you consider the Midwest but I would say Gatlinburg, Tennessee, cost is low, a wonderful aquarium there, one of the best in the country, country western things if you like that and if you don't wonderful hiking trails, waterfalls, lots to do. Talk to Westgate timeshares, they give you a free place to stay for a day or two if you go through a tour which isn't so bad. |
