Austin is a Beautiful city and is the Capitol of Texas. With the Hill Country in the western suburbs, 3 lakes downtown, University of Texas, and great nightlife, I'd take Austin for sure if I had a choice. Better go for the one where you can find the best job though. |

i have lived multiple years in both and know that they each having something unique to offer. if you are looking for lower living costs, fort worth is it, austin is quite expensive both in rent and buying a house. the weather can be crazy in either place, so no benefit there. austin does have more of a nightlife and outdoor activities, i think it is a great city for a very diverse population and a younger crowd. fort worth has a lot of great museums, sports teams, and more variety since it is in the metroplex area with dallas and many other cities. fort worth is a bit more conservative and family oriented. although austin bills itself as the live music capitol of the world, fort worth has more concerts from bigger names.
i honestly loved living in both towns and loved everything they have to offer. one thing to consider is the availability of a job for you. austin does have multiple universities in the area, so sometimes finding a job can be more difficult due to the number of students and graduates. fort worth also have universities in the surrounding area, but with the huge metroplex that it is in, jobs are more plentiful. both cities have great restaurants, shopping, and friendly people. traffic can be a nightmare in both, so be warned!
if you have any other questions, please feel free to email me. if you get the chance, try to visit both the cities for yourself. :) |

austin i lived there for three years. any how great nightlife lots of things to do the 3 lakes and the colorado river housing is higher but there are some cheap homes though close to down town a shity 2 bed room could be worth 1 million cause its location though down town the cruddy appartments are cheap.
austin is the live music capital of the world tons of music and the people are nice.
crime rate is low and traffic isnt bad its like 15 minutes from the suburbs to down town.
and the only thing thats bad is the graffiti well its not out of countrol but sense the city thinks thats the only bad thing with it a peice in a pubilc area will be buffed like within a day.
theres some huge crews like rgk mpr. theres wirters like vomit gomer habitis atomik zenac skope loric sarge.
any how from wat my cousion said.
i lived in north austin for 3 years but he lived off south lamar.
though if u want a great city austin is the way to go or houston. |

I would say that if you are the person who likes to meet all different kinds of personalities and see new things everyday then go to Austin. There is always someone there doing something new or different and there is always some kind of show going on there somewhere. 6th St. is awesome!! There are tons of art museums there. I would personally go to Ft. Worth though cause I am a country girl and I like going to the Stockyards and just like the atmosphere there. Maybe you should go visit both places just to see which one you might like better so you don't make the wrong decision. I can tell ya that you will LOVE TX though!! |

If you are the California type, go to Austin. They have that progressive artsy kind of atmosphere. The local motto is 'Keep Austin Weird.' You see all kinds of interesting people there. Lots of exceptionally good music. It's like living in Houston's Montrose, but more spread out. |

I'd go for Austin...but that's just my opinion. |

Ditto on what Frank said. I personally think Austin is a more fun and livable city. The only edge I would give Fort Worth is that they have The Kimble Art Museum and some other cultural centers, that Austin doesn't have yet. |

Austin (but I guess I'm a little biased). |

I think both have a lot to offer. I live in Austin, so feel it is better. However, Fort Worth has good museums and zoo, part of the metroplex with lots of options.
Austin is younger and more dynamic. Lots of options for outdoor activity and a growing economy. |

I would recommend Austin over Fort Worth as far as a safer community goes, Austin is a really laid back city and there is a major university located in Austin.
If you're a major fan of railroads like I am I would suggest living in Fort Worth or Amarillo. |

AUSTIN....it's so beautiful and not so busy busy...you just get a relaxed feeling....but you have 6th street for the night life when you feel like it. |

Austin has a lot less people and it's a lot nicer than Fort Worth but I say that cause I have lived here all my life. |

Austin, TX. I definitely have to say this because Fort Worth has a large population and it is really hard to lead a great life. |

Austin is one of the best places to live in the WORLD.!!!!!
I lived there for 10 years....and I want to move back soon.
I also lived in Dallas and it doesn't compare at all. |

Austin, no contest. My family lived there for 20 years, so I speak from experience. It's a beautiful city and has too many good things to list; like great food, nice people, and of course AWESOME MUSIC! Austin is definitely the best choice. |

Depends on what you consider "better." If you love nature and music and that laid back feeling, then Austin is the place for you. If you want a big city, more variety in the people, and a more diverse lifestyle go the Dallas, Fort Worth area. Either way, you'll be in Texas, and that's a great start! :p |

I live in Fort Worth, but I am in love with Austin! I drive down to Austin at least one weekend per month. Austin is smaller and very pretty, but the traffic has to be the worst traffic I've ever been in. Fort Worth is busy, loud, but traffic is good and there's so much to do! In my opinion Fort Worth would be good for the business man type, whereas Austin would be more fun for the younger/just starting out. |

Austin is a more liberal town, both are crowded, traffic is bad, Austin is more attractive. |

i would say the are equal.. but Fort Worth, is soo close to Dallas and there is ALOT to do there. |
