Where is the best place to live in America?

Now before jumping in telling me how great your town/city is, I have certain criteria to be met.

1. Summer - warm, not too hot. High 80s upwards wears me out.
2. Winter - not too cold and little/no snow. I'm a Brit looking for warmer climes.
3. Population - twixt 100k - 250k (circa 90,000 might also qualify).
4. Weather - NO hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, flooding etc. Not too much rain either.
5. Crime - low (preferable VERY low).
6. Lakes - bring 'em on.
7. Hills/mountains - nice to look at. I might even climb one.
8. Good schools - for 10 year old.
9. Religion - Jewish community of at least 200 families.
10. Quality of life - excellent. Clean air. Clean water. Friendly people.
11. Cost of living - in between inexpensive and reasonable. I don't want to have to work to live or should that be the other way round?
12. Arts & Culture - theatres, cinemas and museums nearby.
13. Health - Great hospitals/medical facilities.

Thank you.

Check out Asheville, NC. I don't know how much of a jewish population they have, but everything else seems to match up. The website I put in sources has alot of the information you're looking for.

It appears they have two big Synagogues. one conservative the other reformed. Their websites are
Beth Israel Synagogue Conservative- http://www.bethisraelnc.org/

Congregation Beth HaTephila (Reform)- http://urj.org/index.cfm?

soory! but it appears that you've got to stay where you are.... no place ( in america anyway) has all these things LOL!

Thats an easy one :D. Florida! Reason being if you like the water then this is the place to be. You have water all around you. Great hospitals, tourist attraction, alot of places to live, but if you want to work to live not live to work I hope you have a degree in medicine or know how to do construction. There are more jobs out there of course. But these 2 is a demand here. Good luck to where ever you go.

With the exception of the low cost of living, Northern Virginia could fit your list. But its QUITE pricey.

Try your luck with chabbad.org. Maybe they could give better advice.

Have a look at smaller towns close to the Seattle area, though there would be quite a lot of rain. Seattle has the best medical facilities in the country and is clean and low in crime, has lake washington, Mt. Rainer close by, has a decent art museum, great suburbs, definitely friendly, very good education standards. Not sure about cost or their Jewish community though.

Every year, Money magazine compiles such a list. It may not all inclusive of your criteria but I think it is pretty good.

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/

Actually I would disagree with Washington DC (I am from that area) because the cost of living there is extremely high and the population exceeds your threshold.

In fact, pretty much all major coastal cities are getting expensive live at (east or west coast) so you may have to look at something in the center of the country.

The Gulf Coast (Florida especially) is prone to hurricanes. The center of the country is prone to tornadoes--it also gets quite cold in the north central area of the country in winter. The Northeast gets lots of snow in the winter also. The Pacific Northwest is wet. The southwest is very hot and dry in the summer. Weather in the United States hits all extremes.

It is hard to find a place that does fit all of your criteria though but it does sound like you will need to look for a smaller town perhaps somewhere in the mid-Atlantic or central Pacific (Oregon-ish/Idaho-ish). However, the smaller the town, the less diverse (and fewer Jews) there will be.

nowhere, america is not so good anymore, they would be first to be attacked in war by 3rd world counteries, stay where you are!

TRY PAGE, ARIZONA. THIS PLACE MEETS ABOUT 75% OF THE THINGS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. WE HARDLY GET SNOW, LITTLE BIT OF RAIN, AND SUNSHINE ALMOST ALL YEAR LONG. IT REACHES ABOUT 100-105 DEGREES HERE IN THE SUMMERS....BUT WE'RE RIGHT NEXT TO LAKE POWELL. WE HAVE BREATH TAKING SCENERY.....NOT SURE ABOUT THE JEWISH COMMUNITY, COST OF LIVING IS RIDICULOUS HERE....AND WE HAVE A GREAT HOSPITAL, SCHOOLS, POPULATION, NOT MUCH CRIME, AND ABOUT 2 HOURS FROM THE NEAREST CITY. IT'S JUST GORGEOUS HERE IN ARIZONA......GOOD LUCK.

Somewhere near the big apple. There is an AMID community that passed all of your criterion. Good Luck.

Pitsburg Ohio near to the Canadian border. It's tranquil

Try Heaven, Texas USA

You're asking too much, I think.

A good place would probably meet 80% of the criteria.
