Where is the rudest place you've ever visited? How bad was it?

Personal experiences:

1. Dayton, Ohio
2. Southern Indiana
3. Kentucky (almost the entire state except for the far western corner)
4. Northern New Jersey
5. Washington, DC
6. New York (in some parts but, all in all, it isn't really too bad)

If you live or have lived in or visited any of these six places, feel free to agree or disagree with me. And, of course, if you have a different place, you can list it.

I personally like the Deep South (AR, LA, MS, AL) and Texas.
Additional Details
Oh, I forgot to mention some other places that are rude:

-Orlando
-The Maryland suburbs just outside of Washington, DC
-Again, in Kentucky (again), Louisville in particular (no offense to Rich), also Lawrenceburg and Frankfort.

How many people in each state are you basing your opinion of the entire population on?

This has to be the largest generalization I've ever seen.

How can you base your opinion of an entire state on the service you received in a restaurant?

These are people, probably working on a weekend, for ungrateful customers, for lousy pay.

Of course some of them are rude.

I went to Boston 6 years ago. Everywhere we went, people were rude... even in stores and traffic jams!

I like NYC as a whole, however, all the times I have been I have encountered a number of really rude jerks. Once I was asked what country I was from, my response "I'm not from a foreign country, I'm from the SOUTH!" I was so ticked.

What's so awful about Dayton? I know when I returned to Dayton area from vacation in Orlando recently, I couldn't wait to get home. A week in FL and NOBODY spoke to each other. In Dayton I'm used to pleasant verbal exchanges between strangers many times a day. I'm curious what your Dayton experience was.

1) Washington, DC
2) Northern Virginia

I can't stand these too places. Southern Virginia isn't too bad, but around Richmond and up is horrible.

Wow...I live in Louisville and have rarely experienced rudeness here. Maybe I'm just lucky...

The rudest place I have ever been was around San Diego, CA.

One place I thought would be rude...but were GREAT people...was Detroit, Michigan.

BeachBskt1
boise, idaho isn't too friendly...way too snobby.

Sandpoint, ID.

I used to live and work in the Idaho panhandle. It might have gotten better by now, but it used to be populated with racist white supremacists (the John Birchers are considered liberal).

When I go back to that area of the country, I take shotgun with me in the back of the car.

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Every SINGLE staff person was rude in hotel, restaurants, stores. Will NEVER go back.

I agree witcha, Kentucky sucks *****. They have "It's that friendly" on their license plates, but the worst service I've ever received in restaurants has been in Kentucky, particularly Louisville and Frankfort. Also, Texas IS really nice, I'd move there in a heartbeat.
