I was at Stevens Hospital watching over my wife after she had come out of surgery for ovarian cancer. (16 pound tumor.)
So this is what had my complete and undivided attention.
But the attack didn't really enter my mind all that much. It wasn't important to me at the moment.. (To borrow a Bush phrase about concern for bin Laden.) |

I was taking care of a patient in the Intensive care unit of our hospital. I thought it was a commercial for a movie, until I had the chance to turn up volume on the television.I was overcome with grief and panic. It was one of the most horrible moments of my life. I will remember is as long as I live. |

I was at work, and a customer told me. I spent the next while receiving more and more information from other customers, some of it conflicting, especially about the estimated casualties. Some people told me as much as 250 000 000 people! A long ways off, but it was still a horrific day. I got off work early, and pretty much the whole mall was clearing out as people were going home to listen to the news. Then I found out that thousands of planes were being diverted to Canada (where I live), 25 of which were landing in my city. That was pretty scary. There could be terrorists on the planes, so they're being sent HERE?? Nonetheless, I was very proud of my city and how we lodged and fed the stranded passengers. My workplace (a restaurant) donated quite a bit of food. |
