Where should I honeymoon if we hate the beach?

We're getting married June 28 and looking for some where to honeymoon, but neither of us really like the beach. My fiance also is opposed to cruises (something crazy about the environment), travel that includes flying over large oceans (something about there is enough stuff here and in Canada), and he doesn't drink (so no wine tours :( ), so all of that's out as well. His idea of a fun time is probably driving for a week straight (which wouldn't necessarily be bad if we were going some place). If you have any ideas on what could please my picky future husband that'd be great! And I am totally flexible, so anything would be great. I'd be starting off in the Cincinnati area. Thanks!

Well, I guess we'd need to know more about what he likes to do. It sounds like you're trying and willing to match his tastes (I can understand because my wife is picky) and that's very sweet.

Sounds like a road trip is in order. Do you like golf? Fishing? Camping? More indoorsy type stuff? Rent a big RV and do a mini golf/fishing/camping tour depending on what you like to do. If that doesn't do it for you, how about museums, landmarks, and just sightseeing? Choose some sites/cities that both of you are interested in visiting and make a road trip of it. Is he interested in history? How about visiting the East Coast--Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC? It's a bit cliche but are you guys into Disney? Take a drive down to Orlando. There are man-made beaches there but you can avoid them if you like. Another good one is Vegas. It's a bit of a long drive but if you have the time, you could make a lot of great stops along the way and the drive through the Rockies is unbelievable!

Anyway, there are lots of possibilities so I guess you'll have to taylor it around his likes/dislikes. I know it's hard having a picky partner but I'm sure you'll work something out. Good luck and Congratulations!

Dayna
Why don't you rent an RV and drive cross country? That way, when you are feeling frisky you can pull over at anytime! He will get to see the country and you will always have a destination, the next town!

How about Las Vegas? They have great hotels, fine restaurants, and lots of nightclubs and shows. There are lots of flights available to there and it has no beaches (since it is surrounded by desert). You don't have to gamble to have a good time there.

In all honesty the honeymoon is about spending time with each other. I would recommend the mountains of North Carolina, some where near the Blue Ridge parkway. Lots of places to stop and picnic and a some really amazing views. At that time of year the mountain temperatures are very nice. Right around 75 degrees. There is also white water rafting in some areas if you have the heart for it.

Congrats.

1. If either of you is into history, I'd suggest going to Belize. It's a bit laid-back, like stepping back in time, but there are things to do, tours to take. I particularly liked the zoo near Belize City but then I've never been to a big city zoo since I'm from Jamaica. Belize is on the mainland of Central America and there aren't many nice beaches (you'd have to take a boat to the keys, which are beautiful), but there are Indian (Mayan, I think) ruins for tourists to explore and you can rent a car and drive through the country. You can also go to neighboring Guatemala and Honduras for day-tours. AND most people don't know that Belize is actually an English-speaking country, despite its location.

2. Costa Rica. I'm sure there are nice beaches there but, being Jamaican, I wasn't particularly interested in seeing any of those (I don't go to the beach at home, either). I did city tours, went to museums, etc. but other people in my group went to see volcanoes, some went on coffee tours and canopy tours (your husband will probably like that); I think there was some white-water rafting going on, too. I can even recommend a hotel with good rates: the Hotel Bougainvillea in Santo Domingo de Heredia is about 20 minutes outside of San José and their gardens are beautiful. You can check out their website www.hb.co.cr . I went there for a conference in Sept. 2006. I just looked at the website again and I want to go back! The downside: it's a Spanish-speaking country (I speak Spanish but most people I came into contact with there also spoke fair English, including hotel staff).

New York City is lovely and fun. There is Niagara Falls (big honeymoon destination). Or Memphis... my friend went there recently and had a lot of fun. there is a lot of live music and other fun things to do!

How about the Grand Canyon?! OR....Gatlinburg TN. They have awesome cabins you can rent for way cheaper than a hotel AND they come with Jacuzzis. Of course, there's always Walt Disney World in Orlando FL, which is a fabulous place for a romantic getaway. You can actually book the packages online in advance too and get everything reserved in advance.

A week to drive isn't really long enough to see much of the country. Why don't you do a search of nice vacation areas here or in Canada and see if anything appeals to you? Is there a state or area you both have never been to but always wanted to see? If you don't like the beach how about the mountains? Check out the Poconos
Have Fun

How about a trip to the Smoky Mountains?

I would try a relaxed drive to the west. Check out the Black Hills, Grand Teetons, etc. I have been on a motor cycle trip there and it is awesome, very beautiful and lots of land activities. lol

What about staying in a great, secluded lodge somewhere? My husband and I thought about that as an option. We loved the idea of staying in a cute cabin, completely secluded from the world, with a great view of the mountains.

Hello:

What you need to do is check out CAA or in the US AAA about this kind of thing.

But what you would like it seems is an interesting route with stuff to check out...you can likely plan it out so that you just make a big loop back to here you started and you can either camp a night or two, or you can plan out where you would like to stay...Hotel on night, little bed and breakfast the next. You can plan where you want to eat too or you can just abandon it if something else looks good.

If you want I would be willing to plan this out (I usto work for AAA in the us) for a small fee. I would even make reservations if you like and update it through the actual honeymoon if necessary

I hope this helps and let me know: pczternastek@gmail.com

I agree with Richard M, Jackson Hole Wyoming. Or Montana, somewhere in the mountains, nice little lodge, something secluded and romantic?

If you would like to minimize the travel involved you could go to niagra fall's the honeymoon capital of the area. your honeymoon should be something you love.
you could pick a big city and explore it. I did that in chicago and it was a wonderful fun time. we parked our car at a parking lot that wasn't too expensive and used the subway system that they had almost the whole time. We went to midevil times and the cheesecake factory and walked down michigan ave.
Since it sounds like he is a nature conservitist maybe going to the grand canyon would be right up your alley.
Isle Royale is also amazing from a nature aspect. It is also pretty close to you in ohio. Even if you aren't into backpacking or hiking you could always stay at the hotel there and take little day trips. when I was there I saw a moose and loons.
Wherever you go just make sure to have a good time! Pick something in your comfort range and have a good time.

Do what Kirsten Dunst did in "Elizabethtown". Make a book with places of interest to be seen on a road trip. Instead of inserting photos before the trip, take along a camera and insert photos into the book after the trip and also include music that you both love to listen to as you drive.

Drive to the mountains...have you ever seen the beach..???? Ohio is kind of in the middle of nowhere isn't it/??

Hi! I am from Cleveland! well over the summer i worked in a National Park out West, I met a lot of people who were just driving around to the different National Parks in the area and that was there Vacation. Near Colorado, Arizona and there are even some closer to Ohio if you dont want to drive that far. But you could camp if you like camping or the parks some times have cabins or some other type of housing near by. and there is plenty of stuff to do in or near the parks....plus the beauty would just take your breath away!

New York City... it doesn't get any grander than that. There is so much to do there: Broadway Shows, China Town, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Wallstreet, Macy's, Tiffany's, Brooklyn Bridge. My husband and I spent four days there, and take it from me, four days is not enough.
There's also Las Vegas... 24/7 entertainment, gambling (not necessary but fun), shows, shopping, the sights, and the food. My goodness, the food alone is reason enough to go to Las Vegas.
Another thing we would like to try is the Canadian train that runs through the mountains and wilderness.
There are so many options without having to cross an ocean. Good luck in your search and have a wonderful time!!!

For our honeymoon my wife and I spend a week in Mammoth Mountain. We spent our time mountian bike riding, sightseeing in and around Yosemite National Park. We then went to Monterey for the Aquarium and the beatifull views in the area.
You can also go river rafting.
If you want to drive around I recommend the Oregon Coast.
