Where should you take a teen on vacation?

Not Florida. And not North Carolina or South Carolina. Something fun. Not too educational. And not to expensive.
This vacation is for A teacher, a stay at home mom with a 5 year old son and a 15 year old girl.

WHERE SHOULD THEY GO?
Has to be in the US

I'm taking my family to Maui this year.

go on a mystery vacation, travel agencies do them a good bit, and you know what you need to bring, get on a bus and you know where you are going when you get there. They have well rounded trips where there is something for everyone.

You can't go wrong with the beach. Since Florida is out, go to California. San Diego has great beaches, a Wild Animal Park, Lego Land, and the San Diego Zoo just to name a few.

?
go to orlando studios ..... never mind thats in florida you can try New York you can watch broadway shows get a tour. FAO Shwartz biggest toy store in the world

I know you said "no" to Florida, but we stay on Sanibel Island there, rent bikes (and a ride-along-bike for our 6 yr old that attaches to my bike and she can pedal along too) and go to the beach each day, and do some other cool stuff. They have a shell museum, and offer other things.

Sounds as though you're on the East coast. How about the DC? I'm on the West coast, and we generally like going to the beach, or somewhere near the coast.

I would agree with Baltimore/DC and then add in Annapolis. Its a gorgeous little town with history. In Baltimore you have the city options but also the aquarium and I believe they have some other wildlife options. DC would be good to look around in a day trip, or perhaps bike it. The 5 year old won't get much out of it for another 7 years, but its a great place to look around. Go to the National Mall for a picnic. I'd also recommend a cruise, you can do small ship cruises along the east coast. I know someone who just did one from Virginia to Florida in a week, visiting some big ports and some smaller ones. I've done them on the coast of New England. If you stay in the US a lot of times they aren't as expensive. Some bigger cruiselines do it but your best bet would be with a smaller one. Cruises have activities available to entertain all age groups, which can be difficult in going just one place.

I think a great place to visit is Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It's not very expensive because it has a vast selection of hotels, and dining is also very acceptable in pricing.

I think your 5-year-old son would enjoy the Milwaukee zoo. It's the best zoo I've been to. And I've been to the St. Louis Zoo and the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. It is by far the cleanest and most well-kept zoo ever.

Your 15-year-old daughter might enjoy the Milwaukee Art Museum. First off, this place looks absolutely stunning! The museum has these flaps that come out sometimes outside, and it looks spectacular itself! The art in it is also very nice.

I highly recommend that you visit Milwaukee for an affordable, enjoyable vacation.

Malta is an island in the middle of the Mediterranean. Consisting of 7 islands it is an ever increasing popular tourist resort due to it's tropical climate, exciting nightlife, and a history dating back thousands of years. I have been there last year and it's wonderful

I suggest you visit http://www.paradisemalta.com to get a glimpse of this beauty

if it helps kindly remember me in your voting!.. cheers!

Well I live in the Midwest so I have taken my kid to Chicago.
Also Michigan has a lot of natural beauty. Esp. in the U.P.
A great place this time of year is going to Niagara Falls.

ChristianBassRocker
You can also go to Virginia and see Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country Park.

It would be loads of fun for both kids.

I assume you want to stay east coast since all the places you do not want to go are east coast? The Baltimore, MD/ Washington DC area is fun. Can be educational, if you want, but can also just be fun. If the 15 year old enjoys shopping or mall browsing Baltimore has a great shopping area at the inner harbor (where the national aquarium is located).

How much time do you have to plan this vacation? If you have a little time, go on a cruise. They are not as expensive as people think and there is always something for everyone to do. All of your food and entertainment is included so you never have to worry about that. You can do a 3 day to a 2 week cruise.

Try Michigan's Mackinac Island, Fort Mackinac and the general area. We took our kids (2, 13, 14 at the time) a couple years ago...they all had a great time; some education, but not enough that it appeared that was our intention. ;)

The other destination I'd recommend is Philadelphia PA. I spent some time there for work...I'm NOT a history buff; but I must admit that I really enjoyed the free tours of the Liberty Bell and related sites. I'd love to get my family out there to see it.
