Where to live in Colorado?

I will be working in Evans, CO this summer so I'm looking for a place to stay. One of my future coworkers advised me to live in Greeley as it will be an easy commute but some of the other students said they are going to Fort Collins. I need an affordable and safe place to stay because I want to have fun but I don't want to spend all my money on rent either. I have heard that Greeley has a bad smell; is it really unbearable? Are there any other areas close to Evans I should be looking into? Please advise me.Thank you.

Well, Greeley USED to have a bad smell from the feed lots, but that was 25 years ago. I imagine things are better now. There's a college there (UNC) and it is a nice, safe town, too. Fort Collins is a great little town, with its own college (CSU), then about 20 miles away is Boulder, which is gorgeous, and its college is CU, but it is more expensive to live there. Golden is nice (School of Mines), so is Morrison (no school), and the Denver metro area in general.

Good luck and lucky you. I love Colorado, so you really can't go wrong anywhere.

Fort Collins is nice, as is Greeley...I don't recall any foul smell and I was just there a few months ago...Loveland is also in the area and nice, too...

i live in broomfield colorado,

and greeley's smell is absolutly horrible,

it is known as "cow town" because you can smell the thickness of cow dung in the air.

even just driving through greeley i'm sticking my nose into my nearest lotion to get the cow dung smell out.

it is horrible, living in greeley would not be great in my opinion.

i think you should live in fort collins,

both of my sisters reside there and are going to CSU.

fort collins is a great city, everyone is soo nice and the view is awesome.

there are affordable places as well.
The mountains are very close, and there is old town and lots of fun stuff.

i hope i could help :]

Wow, there are a lot of idiots who answer questions they know nothing about. Some of them do, though, so props to them.

I've lived in Fort Collins for the past 9 years, and love it. There's tons to do here all summer long. Biggest downside is that you will have a long drive every day you're working - think at least 30 - 45 minutes.

Greeley does occasionally smell, but that's true in most agricultural towns that have feed lots. Such is life. Evans is basically a small suburb on the south side of Greeley.

Other small towns nearby are Milliken, Johnstown, and Windsor. Each will put you about 9 - 14 miles away. (Old Town Fort Collins is about 35 miles). Milliken will probably be the cheapest, though Evans itself is pretty inexpensive.

From a personal standpoint, I'd only live in Fort Collins, but that's my viewpoint. We have free music all summer, festivals, concerts in different venues, and the mountains (and whitewater rafting) are within 20 minutes.

Greeley smells bad because of the rendering plant(s) there. The cattle are slaughtered and the blood is boiled off - I think the boiling blood causes the stench. Longmont is SW and can smell bad too - for the same reason. I would try Loveland which is W of Greeley/Evans and is very nice. Fort Collins is nice too but a little farther to drive and is a busier college town.

my husband's aunt lives in colorado springs. she loves it there. that's as familiar as we are with colorado. but good luck with the job. hope you have fun.

DENVER no question.

Ft. Collins and Greeley are both college towns so things are more expensive. Evans a small town, try to find something there. You'd be safe enough, as long as you are using your head.
Greeley has stock corrals and they do other feed products there, therefore you hear it smells. But it does not all smell.

Well, I know where not to live. Look at my source! OK? 'K?

If there are other students there, stay near where they do - because they are probably the ones you will be having fun with!
