Oahu where Waikiki is. Your 9 year old can learn to surf or you both can go Scuba Diving. You can also go to the Polynesian Cultural Center and have a luau and watch a show there. You can drive around the island and watch huge waves at this time of the year. You can also go to Ala Moana center to shop and watch a show. They usually have girls doing the hula in the mall. You can go horse back riding where they filmed jurassic park and go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay (it's beautiful). |

If you don't like crowds, Kauai is your best choice. It's the least developed and absolutely georgeous. When we arrived on Polihale beach, there were 3 people there, and they left soon thereafter. Not a soul for the 3 hours we were there. Awesome.
We chose a sunrise bike ride one day. Don't let the sound of it fool you. It was a blast. We were picked up early morning and driven to the top of Waimea Canyon, served breakfast while watching the sunrise.
They briefed us on the bikes. They kept a vehicle down the road, and behind us to keep us safe, and those that wanted to could "bomb the hill." Beautiful scenery that you could enjoy at a leisurely pace or at a blur. I forgot how much fun riding a bike was.
The Queen's Bath was an oasis of peace and tranquility. The Blue Room was cool. You had to climb a hill to get to the entrance of a dry cave. It looked like an amphitheater with a stage of water. When the sun shown in at just the right angle, we swam into a lava tube to see the sun's rays hit the water and turn the room blue. Cool.
The helicopter tour of the inaccessible part of the island was awesome. Just lying on the beach was nice. There was enough to see and do to keep you busy, but I wouldn't call it exciting. If you need that, you can fly to Oahu for $100 rt. No matter which island you choose, it's going to be great. I envy you. |

I just returned from Maui Nov 10 2007. It was a pretty relaxing vacation we stayed at the Marriott in Lahina. Lots of nice looking golf courses (but I don't golf). Went to road to Hana with a really cool guide who stopped to show us all of the different plants along the road. That takes all day bus holds 12. The waves are pretty big so its a little dangerous to swim in the ocean. But Marriott had a huge pool we enjoyed. Food prices were not too high. Small town feel for this more remote vacation spot. Big Island was told is extremely crowded. I believe next time we will try Oahu. |

Having been to all the islands I vote for Maui. Bigger island & more to do. Check out the Maui Ocean Center in Maalaea about 6 miles from the airport on the way to Lahaina ~ http://www.mauioceancenter.com/ |

The best island? thats kind of hard. Maui is beutiful and one of the best places for surfing for the older peeps and the younger ones can hang out near the shore. (the waves are pretty big this time of year.)If you feel comfortable traveling in water you might want to book a snorkeling cruise is alot of fun (the kids will love it as much as the adults)Have fun! |

hmm... Maui and Kauai are great vacation destinations, however, considering the age range, I would suggest either Hawaii or Oahu... on Hawaii, there are volcano parks where people usually hike on lava trails and they have awesome beaches. However, there are a lot more things that one can do on Oahu, more shops, more dining restaurants, more family-oriented activities. |

If you're looking for quiet and secluded, go to Kauai. I love it there. If you want lots to do and lot of action, go to Maui. |

We went to Maui this summer and stayed a little past Lahaina, LOVED it. The island is so laid back and the weather was perfect.
It is also a good island as far as things to do, some of the other smaller islands like O'ahu are laid back but don't have as much as far as family entertainment.
If you want you can e-mail me, if you go to Maui, I have some relatives that own condo's you can rent that are beautiful and not outrageously priced, the ocean is right out the back porch. |

Maui is beautiful, but is very quite. The views are amazing and lots of things to do in the water. That's my fav! Honolulu is very populated, but there are many things to do. It all depends on if you want to be more secluded or in the center of the attractions. |

Maui is the best. It is not as crowded as Oahu, but has a lot more to see and do than Kauai or the Big Island of Hawaii.
Lots of info about Maui hotels, condos, sights, activities, restaurants, etc, is at

KAUAI!! It is the most relaxing, beautiful and family friendly. So many beaches and so few people on them....you can virtually have the place to yourselves. I suggest getting a copy of "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" by Wizard Publications. It has more info than any other book I have ever used, and good maps and travel and dining tips too. I have been to Kauai 8 times in the past 15 years and think it is the very best island there is. One other tip. when you arrive at the airport in Lihue and are waiting for your luggage, pick up ALL the travel brochures there are sitting there. Read thru them, they have many coupons for dining, tours, helicopter rides (a MUST DO on Kauai). Also the very best and least expensive place to buy your souvenirs is the Wal-Mart in Lihue. They have a large selection and the best prices on the island. If you have never been to Oahu and want to see the sights (Pearl Harbor Memorial, Punchbowl, Waikiki Beach), Roberts Hawaii has a great day trip package that gives you your airfare and a rental car. Leave on the first flight out in the morning and return on the last flight that evening, give yourselves plenty of time at Pearl Harbor and go there FIRST. ENJOY your trip to Paradise. ALOHA!! |

MAUI is better than Kauai.... |

Kauai is the greenest Island, Maui is the most diverse and Oahu is the most touristic.
Each island provides plenty of recreation, relaxation and interest.
What to do?
Helicopter over Kauai and see where they filmed Jurassic Park.
Drive to the seven sacred pool or Hana in Maui. Or up to the pineapple wine making.
Oahu is great for hotels and restaurants, gentle surfing and night life partying. |

Me and my wife, just spent 17 days total in Hawaii, here is my Interpretation......
Waikiki and Honolulu...Stinks, its a tourist trap and a money pit, reminds me of South beach in Miami...
The Kona Coast is probably my 2nd Favorite place in all of Hawaii, don't ask, just is....
Maui, overated..well ok the Road to Hana is ok..other than that, over developed tourist trap...
My favorite is Kauai, this is what Hawaii is all about, raw beauty, Not some over developed with hiltons and sheratons dotted everywhere. We stayed on the north shore, in princeville. But Kapa'a and Poipu are equally impressive..small town feel...real Hawaii..definitely do the Napali coast..Cheers! |

Each island has its own seduction. Why not book a cruise and island hop on each one? Or plane tickets interisland is about $40 per person. Mind as well enjoy Hawaii to its full capasity than a halfass attempt. |
