Either Maui or Oahu. They both have awesome beaches and Oahu has Pipeline which are 20-40ft waves that are really close to the beach and alot of pro surfers go there.

each island is different in many ways and each has lots of wonderful things to do and see. Research each by getting a book about the Hawaiian Islands at the book store or just Google each one and read a little about what there is to see and do on each and decide which you are most interested in. We really enjoy Oahu because first of all it's the least expensive to get to and has lots of reasonable hotels right near Waikiki Beach. You can hike up Diamond Head Volcano, watch the pro surfers practice on the north shore, try out loads of beautiful beaches (our faves are Waimea Bay, Waikiki Beach and Kailua Beach), go to the Dole Plantation for Dole Whips (yummy!), visit the Byodo-In Temple, hike to waterfalls and the lighthouse, etc, drive the beautiful Pali Hwy, wonder through Chinatown, go to Pearl Harbor, explore Honolulu, and so much more. But, as I said, each has tons to do and each is beautiful beyond words. It's one of our favorite vacation spots. Have fun!!

I have been to both the big island and Maui. I think that Maui wins hands up. I really thoroughly liked Maui when we were there, and there is a lot to see and do.

The following are different places and destinations that you can see when you're in Hawaii, namely Maui.

-- Haleakala Crater -- this is the crater that is one of the most well known volcanoes within the area of Maui. This you either have to go up very early prior to sunrise, or very late before sunset. Both of the views I hear are spectacular. When we went up, we went up prior to the sunrise, and the sunrise was just spectacular. We had a good time there. Be sure to dress warmly as it is cooler up in the crater area.

-- Molokini -- this is where it is a spectacular site for those who are interested in scuba diving and in snorkeling. This is an island off of the coast of Maui, and you go by a fishing boat to this area. Sometimes the waters can be quite choppy over to there, but the view is spectacular.

-- Wailea -- this is just outside of where we were staying at the Kamaole Sands, and it was spectacular. It was gorgeous white beaches with people who are surfing. You need to be careful with the waves as some of them have dangerous undertows.

-- Hanna- this is where you can go into many different climates in one area. You can go through semi arid desert, then coastal rainforest, and then into the mountainous areas. This is a very good biological area, if you're interested in learning about biology and wanting to take some pictures of animals and plants. Also if you go to the picnic area within the rainforest area, I repeat DO NOT swing on the vine. My brother broke part of a small bone on his foot.

I will also provide you with some links for Maui
