Which Park would you recommend for boys 17 and 12, Disney World or Universal ?

We are getting a one day pass to one park free. We have to choose from Universal or Disney World. My boys are all about the coasters and since I haven't been to either park and can't find out a whole lot about either I thought I would ask!

If they are into roller coasters, I would go with Universal Studios. Disney only has family rides, and the roller coasters are not really scary, unless you get a big rush from Thunder Mountain.

If you want coasters Universals Islands of Adventure is your best bet, but it is mostly thrill rides so if you don't like them it may not be the best. Universal Studios offers 1 coaster that's good but many of the other attractions are OK. The Disney/MGM studios offers 1 roller coaster and 1 drop ride, the rest are mostly shows. Animal Kingdom offers 1 small roller coaster, 1 big roller coaster and a river rapids ride, the rest is mostly about animals. The Magic Kingdom has the best variety with 2 medium size roller coasters, a small roller coaster, and a flume ride, with a lager variety of other rides to choose from.

Answer:
Islands of Adventure is good for thrills and not much else
Universal Studios has 1 great thrill and not much else(if you can only go to one park this is not the one)
Disney/MGM Studios has 2 great thrills and not much else(good choice if you like stage shows)
Animal Kingdom(Good variety of thrills but you must enjoy watching animals to enjoy most other things at this park)
Magic Kingdom (Best overall but not for the hardcore thrill seeker as most of this parks rides are fairly tame compared to many others)
Forget about EPCOT if you are only going to do one park

I have been to every park and am in my early 20s. I have visited Florida throughout my teens, and I am absolutely certain that if your young 'uns like thrill rides then Universal Islands of Adventure is for them. It has some of the best rollercoasters I have ever been on, and is amazingly themed.

Disney is great fun too, but in your situation I would definitely opt for Islands of Adventure.

Have fun!

Disney has one "roller coaster" and Universal has four. Disney has more rides between their 4 parks and Universal has 28 between the two. But it also has Spiderman and Jurassic Park and Jaws and Dr. Doom Fear Fall. I think Universal would have more offerings for the two boys of that age. Good Luck and Have fun!

If they love thrill rides and coasters, Universal's Islands of Adventure is probably the way to go. Several good roller coasters and other thrill rides. Universal Studios is a separate park, and has a lot of older, aging attractions, not much that is really thrilling.

Disney has four separate parks, but they are not really known for thrill rides. The Disney Studios does have the Tower of Tower (13-story elevator drop) and the Rock n Roller Coaster which are both pretty good. There is also the Star Tours ride based on Star Wars, which often appeals to this age.

universal

If they have never been to either, opt for Disney.

Disney is not just one park. You have more options there. They are too old to care about the Magic Kingdom, but they will love Epcot, among others. Check Disney vacations online to see the various options they have.

Universal Studios for sure. After the age of 9 Disney becomes boring. If your kids were under 9 Disney is the way to go though.

y!y!k
I suggest that Disney because the first time I went I was 15 and I like a lot because it was like my biggest dream and it didn't matter my age, because it was really cool, but I like it a lot too Universal.

Flying Fox
Chose Disney. You won't regret.

I definitely recommend Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. They have the most (and best) coasters and rides. Totally amazing! You will not regret the first time you ride the Incredible Hulk adn I swear I rode Spiderman 5 times in one day - totally awesome!

Laurellamags
universal has great rides but its mainly about being in movies. Disney is completely full of rides all day long.

well i have been to both of the parks and i suggest that Disney would be better because it has roller coaster and every thing you need while in universal yes there are a lot of good things but still not better than Disney.

Disney, hands down. Epcot and MGM are the best places for boys. At MGM you have the car stunt show, and Rockin Roller Coaster, the Indiana Jones show and Star Tours, the Star Wars ride. At Epcot you can ride Mission Space and Test Track, among many other things. Make sure to get fast passes though, first thing, because those rides have the longest lines.

kaisy p
i suggest universal
