Greed...Is Good
Chi-Town baby!
It rocks and its is much safer.
Just check the crime stats.

No places are safe in these day. Only Kingdom of heaven is a safe place for all.

From experience--- the traffic sucks in both cities!! I loved Atlanta, though. Plus, they got the Braves!! I would go there.

Two very differenty cities...climate, geography, population, culture. Why don't you take a short trip to each and get a feel for them? That might help you get a better sense of where you'll feel safer and more at home.

Both are big cities with plenty to offer and their share of problems. Also, think about school/job, cost of living, transportation.

Good luck.

you don't even like atlanta, and when you go to chicago its going to be worst b/c you think atlanta is too expensive, wait until you go too chicago!!! duh!!!

do you have to move? I guess chi it's the lesser of the two evils

Honestly, It really just depends on what you're looking for. There are benifits to both cities, for example. If you really like to have all seasons, Chicago is a great place for you. It provides fantastic night life, a wonderful downtown atmosphere and safe suburb areas to live in that aren't really "in" Chicago but are near it.

Atlanta tends to be warmer during the year but is a little bit more expensive than Chicago. Although it provides some suburb areas that are safe, it's a little more difficult to find affordable and safe housing. The night life in Atlanta is fabulous and it doesn't get that cold in the winter.

If you're looking for something in between though, I would try DC. It's really expensive but if you have an apartment or a small house in Maryland, you can take the Metro into the city in about fifteen minutes and be surrounded with AMAZING night life, great museums and shopping and live in the Nation's capital, who can't beat that?

Good luck, this is the fun part....moving is not :(

Georgia is a beautiful state, and has a very good opportunity for a good lifestyle. That would be my choice.

Chicago i much safer with many more things to do. However it is more expensive. I wouldn't think you could live well in Chicago on less than 75K. In atlanta its much cheaper although the traffic is worse.

It depends on the economic situation in those cities as to employment, advancement cost of living etc. Both are great cities and you must choose wisely if you are to succeed and be happy. Both have their own bad spots like any other city and both are major transportation hubs for the entire country.
I would do some investigation first and then make your decision accordingly.

Either one will be better over the other for various reasons. It would help if you provide more details about your hobbies and/or interest. I live in Georgia and know Atlanta very well. I've visited Chicago (coindentally, just this year) only once in my life - spent a week there during a conference. From what I saw it was very nice. Both will have its "rough parts" so neither is necessarily safer than the other (my opinion only). I'm a golfer so that's what's important to ME. I choose Atlanta because the climate is warmer - longer golf season (practically year round). You may choose Chicago due to food, facilities, job, whatever. Both are big cities and attract many events, concerts, etc. so you wouldn't "miss out" either way. Finally, the cost of living in Atlanta (and generally in the South) is going to be a LITTLE bit cheaper. Good luck!

no big city is safe. you want safe then move into the moutains or some old town in the middle of nowhere where nothing ever happens.

Lolitta
Probably Atlanta....job propositions are better and the cost of living is not as high as in Chicago.
