Which city(s) near Dallas, Texas is the safest? I am thinking about relocating in the near future.?

I was considering Grand Prairie, Arlington, and possibly Fort Worth?

As one who grew up in Dallas, spent many years in college in Arlington, and worked in Ft. Worth, and had friends in Grand Prarie, I can only tell you that each city has it's dangers. No city is clean and clear of crime. I'm more impressed with Arlington and Grand Prarie, since I was also employed by the City of Arlington back in the early 1970's, but, looking at that, I can say that a lot of my impressions are a bit antiquated since I moved out of the D/FW area back in 1980. Each city has it's bad spots. I know the Ft. Worth Police Department has sent some of it's police car camera films into the show "Cops" and "World's Wildest Police Videos" and such, and they seem to be better than when I was there. I can only tell you that they are all about as safe as the next one. You just have to be attentive to which part of the town you move into. I feel the Chamber of Commerces might be a great help here. They'll be very glad to help you. I can also tell you that the North Central Texas Council of Governments, which I last knew to be located in Arlington, is an excellent source of data of all sorts, including crime statistics, and they will be more than willing to help you. I'd move back there any day, if I had to, but now I'm retired and have moved out in the country, so far in the country that no one can see my house from the nearest road, and I can't see them, and LOVE it. But the D/FW location is great. My 23 year old son currently lives in Arlington since he got out of the Army, and some very good friends live in the southwest section of Ft. Worth. Well, they live so far in the southwest section that they actually live outside the city limits, within the county (Tarrant County). Check the resources I gave you (Chamber of Commerces and the North Central Texas Council of Governments) for up-to-date stats on all kinds of imagineable issues, including crime. God Bless you.

Nancy...where are you going to be working, or going to school, or whatever it is that has you coming to the Dallas area...

You really want to live as close to work/school as possible...because the traffic here is pretty terrible...or, live as close to one of the light rail stations...

For the guy that loves Frisco, enough already...it is not the greatest place in the world, no matter what you say...

There are good and bad places in just about every suburb of Dallas and Fort Worth...there are some very lovely parts of the City of Dallas...

Good luck with your choice...

Arlington is nice but the traffic is unbearable there. Grand Prairie is the pits. Fort Worth is a very good place to live and is much safer and slower paced than Dallas. Personally I was raised in Dallas but moved to the Fort Worth area suburbs (Mid-Cities) about 50 years ago. To this day, the only thing I have ever missed about Dallas was not living closer to some of my relatives. I highly recommend the Mid-Cities area of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Property taxes there are reasonable also.

For a while I was a "Katrina refugee" living in Fort Worth. I found that the northwest side of Fort Worth towards Lake Worth was pretty quiet. The people were very friendly and helpful. I have since moved back to New Orleans, but if I had to move to Fort Worth again for some reason, I don't think I would mind it too badly.

I drove around a lot. Arlington didn't seem too bad. Never got to Grand Prairie much so can't comment.

I say move to South of Grand Prairie. DO NOT, I repeat do not go anywhere near North of GP except a few areas as North GP is becoming overrun with illegal aliens. I would recommend the Westchester community. There are two movie theaters available withing 5-8 minutes of any home in Westchester. The Parks Mall is also a quick 15 minutes away. I would recommend Westchester over any of the other areas, it is pretty safe. I recommend going to the older areas of Westchester as it seems more safe there than the newer areas of North Westchester(reportedly more break ins)

Frisco is a very safe community. It has a lot of nice houses. Tons of great restaurants, shops, and a great mall. It has a lot of families and young people. It is my most recommended Dallas community on Yahoo! Answers. Hope this helps. Thanks for moving to the Dallas area.*

My daughter and I went to Dallas 3 times last year for legal reasons. We stayed in Irving because it was cheaper than staying in Dallas. We were really impressed with that area. Everybody was really nice and helpful and really friendly. I would love to go back to Irving and I would love to live there. Good luck to you!!

I'd say Frisco or Plano. Plano is a wealthier area and Frisco is very friendly. Nice, young people in both cities.

All of those are probably equally safe. Consider McKinney. It is growing fast.

depends on what kind of community you want to live in, just going by safe, i would consider plano and frisco, its quiet and nice, i personally dont like frisco since for me theres nothing there to do. just stay away from south dallas and oak cliff area, theyre not the safest place in dfw. i dont travel to fort worth, so i dont really know what there is to do there, and as far as i know, i dont think arlington is that safe anyway, at least the parts that ive been to in arlington. Just look around, look at crime rates of each county and ask around.
