Never been to Texas but i live in New York so i'll have to say New York!

sillycanuckpei
Texas! Cowboys, conservatives, cattle, and cotton! A great state all around.

They're both separate countries unto themselves. I'm a native New Yorker but I have spent a couple of years living in Texas and there is no comparison.
NYC is the center of the world and Texas is somewhere out on the barely civilized fringes

I've lived in Texas a few years back but I'm currently residing in NY. New York is better in my opinion because it has everything. It is cold in the colder seasons and hot in the hotter seasons while Texas is pretty much the same year round, so having something different once in a while is good. New York is way more known and it has suburb-y parts while it still has a lot of city parts. Texas has more suburby parts. New York is a place with a lot of diversity and has a lot to offer. Where did immigrants first come? Ellis Island. New York has The Statue of Liberty and a whole lot of other sights to see.

I could go on and on about why New York is a much better place to be than Texas, but I'll stop it here. I ♥ New York.

I'll have to say NY. I have never been to Texas but if its like the rest of the south (bible belt and closed minded), I'd pass. But honestly I am just not a southern girl, I'm a city girl so I am completely bias. . . .

After typing all this it came out as a tie. Well anyway here ya go:

CULTURE
TEXAS: Texas has more large cities than NY, each one bustling with things to do and its own distinct flavor (Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio) Also the TX state fair just one of the best state fairs there is and Texas is known as “the friendly stateâ€
NEW YORK: New York city is a unique experience unlike anywhere else in the world. As individual cities go its just hard to beat. New Yorkers are rumored to be rude to tourists but this isn’t always true and is really more a part of the nyc culture than anything else.

Result: Tie.

STATE PRIDE
TEXAS: Texans have a fierce pride in their state, and Texas was its own independent country for a while
NEW YORK: New Yorkers have a fierce pride in their state too, and Manhattan was the first capitol of the United States

Result: Tie

FOOD
TEXAS: Same as what you can get anywhere else in America - except the further south you go the closer you get to authentic Mexican food, also the home of "tex mex"
NEW YORK: in Manhattan, you can get anything to eat you can think of. The rest of New York, though, offers nothing unique in the culinary arts

Result: New York wins by a bit

NATURAL BEAUTY
TEXAS: Texas is the 2nd largest state in the US, and has just about every possible geographical climate you could ever think of, from mountains to snow-ski on to deserts to hike through to plateaus to watch the sunset over to forests to camp in to beaches and lakes to swim around in, and then some. Also the weather is plenty warm enough to be outside the whole year and enjoy it.

NEW YORK: New York has Niagara falls - but its better from the Canadian side, the Appalachian mountains, and has a pretty fair share of backcountry beauty itself - but just not as much as Texas has to offer, and 3 or four months out of the year its too cold to be outside, unless you want to frolic in the snow, and cold and snow don't always go together in NY.

Result: Texas wins this one

LIVING EXPENSES
NEW YORK: Manhattan - one word: ouch! And in nice areas in New York, a house will cost 1.5 - 3 times more than it would in Texas
TEXAS: The more populated areas are pricey to live in, but not so bad as New York, and since its so geographically huge there's usually always cheap alternatives nearby, in neighborhoods that *aren't* scary to live in or completely bfe.

Result: Texas wins

ECONOMY
NEW YORK: Manhattan, hello? There is big, big money there.
TEXAS: no state income tax. Also the 2nd biggest economy in the US, having passed New York recently, coincidentally

Result: Texas wins by a little

WEATHER:
TEXAS: Winter, spring and fall are nice, but in the summer you'd better be inside with the AC on, or else in the shade or in the water
NEW YORK: Offers all 4 seasons and a has some kick butt fall foliage

Result: NY wins

TRAFFIC:
TEXAS: Houston Rush hour Traffic is a nightmare - Houston has 16 lane highways that still get clogged up. All other cities have their rush hour clogs too but its never too bad
NEW YORK: Manhattan traffic can be hellish too - but unlike Texas, New York has trains and subways, so with a little planning its avoidable. Friday nights in the summertime the highways get crowded too

Result: New York has a better traffic situation

I would go for Texas because of the weather (Texas, does not get covered with snow in winter).

I couldnt agree more with the people's answers. There is NO COMPARISON in these 2. I have lived in Texas all my life and have visited NY a couple of times. Texas is one of those states that you would have to live in for a while to get to really know all its positive quirks, I would suggest you going to Austin, San Antonio and Dallas for the real texas spirit. My dad is from NY and he just goes on and on about how much he prefers TX, while I on the other hand know NY is a very touristy city, some people LOVE the NY spirit!! They're both known for their history and their wonderful foods, so if you get to visit either of them, then i suggest you just sit back and enjoy. I will admitt that Texas does have the nicer people, and the best Steaks in the World! & I've also heard we have the prettiest people ;o) But NY has the magic of the holidays, best shopping strips, and the wonderful city essense!

-doozer-
Texas. New York stinks from pollution and has rude people there. Trust me NewYork isnt all that great!

m434u
from those two I would have to say Texas

old school
Lived in NY, both in NYC and upstate, and have visited most of Texas. New York.

yellow_raven1978
these are 2 places with COMPLETELY different cultures. It is a matter of what you like better. I would personally go for New York because I think that upstate New York is BEAUTIFUL. And I don't like warm weather, so Texas is a place I would want to avoid.

Granny 1
Never been to NYC, but have been to Texas sorry to say I wasn't impressed with that either. It seems the south has losted there hospitality.
