Which is better...the Peter Pan Bus or Fung Wah Bus from Boston to New York City? |
My friends and I are staying in Boston for a week and want to make a day trip to NYC, because we've never been. Two bus companies have many scheduled trips and I wanted to know which one was better. There is a difference in cost (Peter Pan: $100 round-trip, Fung Wah: $30 round trip) We'll pay either price, just want the better bus. THANKS! |

Ok, please listen to me. I had the horrible experience of traveling on a Fung Wah bus to NY. Horrible is almost too nice of a word. The bus did not have working air conditioning, and in July, it was unbearable. The bus continued to overheat, so we had to stop every 30 minutes to let the engine cool down, right on the side of the highway. Since that delayed us considerably, our driver decided to make up time by speeding in NY city at dangerous speeds. We were VERY concerned about our safety. When we arrived there was a mob, which was the people waiting to get onto the bus, no orderly line at all, just people pushing and shoving to get on the bus, because it is oversold. One woman commented how she was getting on the same broken bus she took there 3 days prior! I ended up taking the train back, same time, much safer and more room. Right after this, the same bus caught on fire and drove for a long time ON FIRE because the driver could not understand the passengers telling him the bus was on fire. Then a little later a bus overturned on an offramp because he was speeding (trying to make up for lost time again???). Seriously, pay the extra money, take Peter Pan or the train. Your safety depends on it. |

A cheap fare is no excuse for enduring shoddy service and dangerous drivers.
Fung Wah is not the only Chinatown bus line but it seems to be the two words associated with the whole business. My experience is not as a passenger but as a driver having to make way for these speeding monsters.
My wife was harrassed by a Fung Wah driver going down the Mass Pike. She was driving 75 in the middle lane with no other cars around and the bus was still about 3 ft off her rear bumper.
Mine was in the HOV lane on I-84 through Hartford, CT. I was going 75 and still the Fung Wah driver insisted on following 3 ft behind.
Take Peter Pan. Please. |

Are you sure the Peter Pan bus is $100????
Last time I checked in the Boston Metro, the price was around $15-20 a trip. Check it again or call and verify.
If it still that high, then just take the Fung-Wah bus...go in the morning (7 am) when it's not crowded and still clean). |

Peter Pan. Better maintained and more reliable. |

There is a joke here in Boston. Fung-wah means bus on fire in Chinese. Take Peter Pan |

Peter Pan by far. Fung Wah has a number of issues including, but not limited to, busses catching on fire, drivers not speaking english, and busses rolling over. |

Fung Wah's cheaper, but their safety record is a little iffy and the buses' interiors are not the newest or cleanest. the drivers don't speak english and drive like bats outta hell.
peter pan is more expensive but absolutely safer, cleaner, and more comfortable.
but have you considered the train? Amtrak runs between South Station and Penn Station pretty regularly. |

Fung Wah has the worst safety record of any bus line in the US. Check out this article:

If Peter Pan is $100 round trip, have you thought of going Amtrak? It can't be that much more expensive and would be much more pleasant. |

I hear raves about the Fung-wah, mainly for the price. But they're a little less predictable. I'm pretty sure you can come down on the price with Peter Pan, since Fung-wah's emerged they've been the major competitor. I'm certain PP has comperable prices if you travel at a certain time of day. |

Better check the news lately, Fung Wah has had a few accidents and people have gotten hurt. The news is saying that they hire people who cannot speak or understand english or the signs on the roads....I'd take amtrak, better ride, safer ride... |

The Fung Wah bus has a sketchy safety record; there have been at least a couple cases of buses catching on fire and also a couple of accidents. I'd also check again with Peter Pan or Greyhound because at least for a while they had fares that were competing with the Fung Wah bus. Maybe only on certain routes though, I'm not positive. |

Take Peter Pan for sure. I see many Fung Wah buses broken down on the side of the road when I am driving and Peter Pan is much more comfortable and clean and smells better. |
