Some people say that New York is bigger than Mississippi. I don't really know, once I thought about. Why? Because New York seems bigger because they build most of their buildings upward-vertically. Mississippi in contrast, builds their buildings across ways. So MS seems more complex or smaller. NY has more room b/c of they way their buildings are made. So reader, what do you think? |

New York City, even all five boroughs, is actually quite small. Right at 300 square miles. The population, though, is 8.2 million, which is very crowded (27,300 people per square mile). BY THE WAY, the question asker seems to be talking about the city, not the state. Ever been to the Adirondacks? Not a lot of skyscrapers there.
Mississippi has a land area of 48,434 square miles, but a population of only 2.9 million (about 61 people per square mile) |

If you are comparing the size of the states, New York is much larger, and has more people. If you are comparing the city of New York to the state of Mississippi, of course the state is bigger. |
